If that just "looks" like a USB storage device within Windows then the Dension 300 will be able to play the MP3 tracks straight from it and it should charge it too.

Hi chaps,

Would be quite interested in a group buy, but have a few questions.

I currently have a connects2ipod kit in my Octy 2 as well as a Bury CC9060. The connects2ipod kit is a bit pants - its supposed to assign playlists to each of the six changer buttons, but they seem to be different playlists each time. My real issue however is the fact that the iPhone seems to default to broadcasting over bluetooth to the CC9060 rather than through the dock connector - does anyone have a way to make the iPhone default to broadcasting through the dock connector?

Also, the connects2ipod has caused me to lose my Aux In in the jumbo box - the dealer said that they had to disconnect it to fit the kit. Does the Dension kit allow you to retain it? No biggie, but it would be nice to have it if I had a choice.

Finally, this £95 price - does that include the attachments for the CAN bus as well as the Dension 100?

Is the kit easy to fit - bearing in mind I am a bit of a numpty with such things. Any special tools/knowledge required?

Hi eeperman

I'm not sure about the Bury kit as I've never used one, I presume it's A2DP compatible and that's why the iPhone is trying to send the music to it? Is it possible to turn off the A2DP option on the Bury?

The Dension kit does not cause you to lose the Aux in on the head unit - infact it gives you another one! So you would have your standard Aux in and also an Aux in on the Dension unit.

The listed price for the Gateway 100 is for the CAN version so no special/extra attachments required there. However you do need to buy either a dock cable or a dock cradle to go with the Gateway 100. They are both the same price and the combined price for a Gateway 100 and a cable/cradle (your choice) is £93.49 + £25.49 = £118.98+P&P

Edit: Forgot to mention, the kit is very simple to fit, but you need to remove the radio to do so. It's a T25 Torx driver you'll need, from memory.

Cheers Steve.

I have a FL Octavia with Bolero HU, I presume I will get the same functunality on the HU as the pictures added by Brimma shown earlier in the thread.

I was unlucky enough to get the car without maxidot though, The display is the same size as the maxidot display so do you think there may be a way to get the screen to show whats playing?

If not i'm hoping sometime soon someone might take the plunge with their FL octavia and get the maxidot retrofitted.

Yes, the Bolero would work the same as the RNS510. I'm not sure what the FL dashboards are like as I've never had a good luck at one but if it's not Maxidot and it doesn't currently show information like the Radio station then I would expect that the Dension won't be able to display there either.

No. Too expensive and badly implemented.

Alternatives?

Can we perhaps keep this thread on topic please

Sorry if I missed this snippet of info somewhere but can you recommend a pocket hard drive that definitely works ok with this kit? I know some people had problems with the OEM Bolero/USB interface with high-current demands from some pocket drives, so want to make sure I've got one that will power okay.

I can confirm my western digital one works fine with the MDI on my RCD510 so should be fine with this too

Couple more questions:

How does the Dension connect to a Bolero? Is it through the MDI port or the CD changer port as per the Stream?

Does the iPhone cradle come with equipment to mount it to the dash or do I need to buy a separate bracket? Would the cradle accomodate an iPhone with a case - is the cradle adjustable?

Would the cradle accomodate an iPhone with a case - is the cradle adjustable?

I have an active cradle with my gateway 100 with my iphone 3GS. i have to take it out of my case every time I wish to use it. a right pain. the dock cable can be used with a case, but you will need to buy a brodit passive cradle and plug dock cable in every time you want to use it. The Brodit cradles seem to be adjustable. take at look on Brodit.se

Mike

Guys,

Is this a new version of the gateway 300 or a software update? On the Dension site I see no other version than the one I have (v1).

I have a gateway 300 and Stream mp3 HU in my Octavia from june 2008. When I play music from USB stick I don't get names or artists, just 'track 01' etc. The same is displayed on the MFD. From the MFD I can just choose 'audio' en the tracknr and f.i. 'CD5' is displayed (same as on the Stream). I cannot select anything.

Does anyone kwow what I must do to get the track titels displayed? Will the new version do so (if it is a new version)?

Thanks.

This is a Gateway 300 CAN, if you post the part number of your unit I could tell you which version you have.

(shark 90)

I think it is Gateway 300 v1 (installed june 2008)

Yes it should actually have a part number, example GW33VC1. That part number is the Gateway 300 CAN version. If you have anything different then it sounds like you'll need to upgrade unfortunately.

Im in the same no display boat. On the gateway site they state 2 versions of the Gateway 300, 300 V1 & 300 V2, Ive got the V2, but have the same problem. Perhaps there is now a new version. They arent the best at updating and can be very vague.

The Dension website;

See your menu in the car

Dension have introduced new Gateway 100 and 300 products which will display text from your iPod or USB menus on the cluster of VW, Audi, Opel and BMW. Products for Fiat and Ford will be released in the next few weeks.

I was hoping it would be an add-on modules :(

But no other info than that...

Can you fill in the blanks a bit shark_90?

And as for maximum size, Ive got a full 500GB working on mine :)

I've now fttted mine, and using the Sony mp3 (as above), all I'm getting is a loud buzzing noise and very quiet audio. If I revert to my cable/mp3/aux socket in jumbo, everythng is fine but that means the dension is redundant and I can't charge the Sony; one of the reasons I wanted it in the first place. I'm very tempted to take the cable out and revert back to the OEM cable etc and put up with charging the mp3 via my pc. Any constructive comments would be appreciated.

Sorry Rhoobarb, I didn't see your post. Always best to PM me if you want my attention directly as it's very difficult for me to keep up with briskoda, let alone the other forums I'm on.

Have you tried the text activation sequence?

Dension: Knowledge Base

Follow the steps below to enter Text selector mode and select the correct text mode on your Gateway. Please note that this option is only available from firmware version 2.09 and does not work on Peugeot CAN Gateway 300.

1. Disconnect all devices from the Gateway

2. Switch on the radio' date=' select [b']CDC[/b] and wait a few seconds. On the radio display you will see CD5/Track99 (Aux_in selected as source)

3. Press & Hold the Fast Forward button for 10 seconds, then release. The display turns to Disc1, indicating that you have entered Text selector mode. Track1 indicates Text_Disabled, while the other track numbers represent text capabilities

4. Select Track 2 by pressing the Next track button. If you cannot select Track 2 and it reverts back to Track 1, the vehicle does not support text display with the Gateway. If you are able to select Track 2 the display will show Aux as default. This means your car supports the text selector feature

Some vehicles support more than one display/screen. The following instructions allow you to choose where Song information (text) is displayed:

5. To move the text between the displays, press the Next track button

6. When you have moved the text to the position you prefer, press Fast Forward (FF) to confirm. Or, by pressing the Rewind (REW) button you can exit Text selector without making any changes

If you wish to de-select the Text selector feature, complete steps 1 to 3 and select Track 1.
