Barcelona - Paris is a reasonable distance - you could catch a night sleeper. Here's Paris in 1985 (yes, it's the Eiffel Tower, at least two of its feet):

And since we're northbound it shouldn't be that difficult to take the next step

Well, from Geneva it's only a short hop on a light aircraft and then gondola ride to the glacier above Alpe Duez to see the effect all this virtual travel has on global warming.

A quick drive on the Autostrade gets you to Genova (Genoa).
