Modified car insurance - who's best?

Featured Replies

So far I have quotes from fluxdirect and performancedirect.co.uk.

Anyone else I should check out that people know of?

Performance direct is looking like the best so far at £544. Endsleigh are coming in at £530, but I've been with them before and they were kind of useless!

Just a bit lost as to who to go with really, so any experienced advice would be great.

I had a cracking deal with Chris Knott

Give Brentacre a ring

Fantastic bunch of guys and they know their mods too.

Chris Knott, Brentacre and Flux all came up with about the same quote for me this year, £850-860.

I'm with Brentacre at the moment. Also Knott and Flux as mentioned. Perhaps HIC and A-Plan too.

I found Flux to be a complete waste of time, passed from broker to broker only to be told they couldn't find a quote for me?

Bell came out cheapest, mods decalred, 21 years old, 0 ncb, no claims/ convictions, 12k p.a., cleared for business use, mum and dad on policy , £856.

Everyone's going to be different, which is why it's always worth ringing round. Driving history, part of the country etc etc.

It's because you've got no NCB.

I'm with Noel Dazely.

Ahh yeah, knew there was on other I was going to mention, that was a guy's name! :D

Steve

Flux for me, saved a packet this year

beware of Performance Direct IMO, ring them for a quote, the call centres they use are manned by foreign monkeys who dont know their **** from their elbow !..........totally put me off them when i rang for a quote last year, wouldnt touch them with a barge pole

ALWAYS ring before taking out a policy, the price online might be good but the service may be crap

I have just renewed mine (1st Sept) and with all mods declared i got mine for £315.

I'm with Chris Knott again as they were £100 cheaper than anyone else.

Just out of interest anyone had any experience of swiftcover?

My cheapest quote was from them at £680 but they get some terrible reviews and they are a bit ambigiuos about modifications? They say they cover "the most popular" mods on their site?

Nothing that enhances performance AFAIK.

Cheers for the heads up on Performance Direct guys, and on the ring before buying tip.

I really hate buying new insurance! It's a horrible experience, but I have no choice this year. I'm pretty sure every insurance company has enough of my details to steal my identity by now!

I'll check out Chris Knott. Foreign call centres are a definate no no for me. As soon as I find that out they go on the 'black list'! That was the only good thing about Endsleigh really.

Is Adrian Flux the same as Fluxdirect??

SwiftCover. Don't touch. Well I won't be doing again. Perhaps the worst I've ever used.

Eventually got them on inability to provide adequate cover and service and got a full refund and went to Brentacre. It's probably the last time I'll ever use a 'normal' insurer; the level of service you get from a specialist is like night and day.

Another vote for Brentacre. CK and AF wouldn't even quote me, although all three are underwritten by Highway. :ne_nau:

This isn't the bloody annoying WA postcode saga again is it?

Or are you SK?

Steve

Ste i'm in SK and i originally (couple of years ago) got told by CK they wouldn't insure me,but they tried and came up with a very good price.

Just found with Sky that they're another one scared of WA ;)

Can't remember which one of the three it was last time who wouldn't do a modded policy for me. Then the other was more than Brentacre, even though it was the same broker - so Brentacre it was :)

Bloody merry-go-round this insurance lark!

Steve

I went with Flux, they were the best for me but like the guys say, it's all about you, where you live, mods and the car. Chris Knott was a close 2nd with A-Plan in 3rd so see what can be done.

I'm sure with a bit of searching and playing companies off against each other you will get a competitive quote!

....is the correct answer.

SK for me. I don't know: a few episodes of Traffic Cops featuring some of the less pleasant bits of Stockport, and suddenly the whole postal district is off-limits... :rotz:

Ditto. Who picked Warrington as a good idea for a postal town anyway?!

per formance direct by far for me :)
