VRS CR TDI Engine

Oh believe me, if any company can find any trace or way to get out of paying they will & you can bet your bottom dollar that they'll go over the car very carefully to make sure it hasn't been tampered with.

true but in my own experience I've not had a problem. Saying that if/when I order the octavia I will not be re-mapping it.

I said that, but this morning I gave it the beans on a stretch of road that I normally test the Fabia on. The Octy was at least 5mph behind at the same point so there's no doubt it is slower but not by that much.

Needs more torque really - it revs nicely enough otherwise.

Wait for my warranty to lapse and then I'll do it. I'll be bored by then too.

true no doubt the darn bug will bite again!! Though as I will be ordering the DSG I'm worried over the power it will take etc. Its the one reason why I'm thinking not to re-map.

:D You know it will happen. It's the way it transforms the car completely that got me. Best thing I ever did to it.

Just ended up going through more tyres and fuel than before. It's nice to have some MPG again.

Damn I sound like an old man..... :(

Have you ordered one yet

My dealer has one in the order system to the spec below at the old price

He has re-ordered another one for me as I changed the spec and Skoda would not modify the first order:(

Guys

I defy a dealer or anybody for that matter to prove the thing has been re-mapped. Most if not all mappers save the "file" (because thats all it is) with the same checksum as the original. You would have to have an original map to compare it to and given that not all cars leave the factory with the exact same map, that could be interesting. In essence there is no way short of driving the thing that somebody could figure out it had been mapped..........unless it had been done by some dodgy backstreet spanner monkey.

not yet, hopefully will tomorrow got the price down which was good just waiting for a test drive in the DSG version. :D

Not sure why, but there seems more concern regarding warranty on the Briskoda forum than other VAG forums.

I have tuned cars for dealers, including one of the head technicians vehicles. Had a good chat with him and he confirmed what I already knew.... they can't see anything to do with the remap.

They can tell when a car is faster on a test drive, but then theres no proof of anything.

Interesting to hear. Hmmm.

Wonder if it's due to the conservative nature of the clientelle? Not wanting to go too much into the realms of social engineering but perhaps the buyers of VAG cars are more cautious and understated by nature, and don't want the hassle of a dealer asking questions.

Absolutely. I have no doubt the EU is going to seal the ECU's in some way one day but for the moment, remaps are pretty much a free for all. In addition tuners have been doing these long enough - look at Angel or one of the other well established tuners. If they kept on killing engines or were invalidating warranties left right and centre they wouldn't still be around. I ran a Punto HGT Multijet for four years with a quite frankly ridiculous remap that acted like a mobile smoke grenade. I drove it like I stole it and for the first two years it was still in warranty so services by a fiat main dealer. No problems, no questions, they knew it had been remapped but didn't care.

If you want to remap then pick a reputable tuner and get it done. I can promise it will be fun and you will probably even see a return on fuel comsumption!

I think you mis-understand.... I am not talking about VAG in general, just some members on Briskoda seem more worried than other VAG forums.

I wasn't haven't a dig, just trying to put some minds at rest. I heard that some members are worried due to some dealers using this forum.

The dealer has known my car has been remapped and I've never had an issue when it comes to warranty. Only time you will have trouble is if SUK asks question about the claim they submit.

But if you in doubt then dont simple as that, people who do "remap" their cars should go in knowing that the worse could happen and most do.

  • 4 weeks later...

Having now covered 1700 miles, the first 1200 miles average (according to the cars computer) was 44.5mpg, although on a spreadsheet that I use to keep track of the economy from one fill to the next, it came out at 45.5mpg. From 1200 miles to 1700 miles it has acheived an average of 46.25mpg.

Journey to work, which is 7 miles of 40 & 50 limits the car is showing 48mpg. Done a couple of 100 miles trips, A3, M25 through the road works 50 & 40 limits and up the A1M, the car did 54mpg. Off on 160 mile trip next week , will be interesting to see what the economy is on this trip , as my old petrol 2.0i Cavalier would do 44mpg on this journey.

Just finished 410 mile drive back from Paris and my Z4 averaged 35.4 mpg which is not bad for a 3.0L engine. I am hoping that my VRS when I get it will do at least 45 mpg on the same trip when it arives.
