Just found out my octavia is remapped!!

Featured Replies

Just been to awesome gti to get my cruise control fitted and the car dyno'd.

First of all, a massive thumbs up to them. They really are awesome!! Fitted the cruise and did the dyno run. When they found out the power output, they had their tech guy dump and analyse the code in the ECU to find out if it was remapped or not. Not many places would even be interested if I hadn't had it mapped there. Awesome!!

Turns out that my car is not standard, and has been mapped at some point in it's life. I have no idea who did it though. I've only had it 4 weeks!!

Anyway, back to the map.

It ran 197.09 clutch hp, and 238.41 lbft torque on the first pull.

Second was 192.51 hp and 241.99 lbft.

Third pull was 187.16 hp and 242.49 lbft.

LINK HERE:

What does everyone think of the map? Shouldn't the peak hp happen a bit later on in the rev range?

Also, I can understand why the power drops down on the runs, due to heat soak etc., but why does the torque increase?

It does seem to be a vicious power delivery. It pulls really hard from 2-3.5kRPM and then seems to ease off a bit. Shouldn't a properly mapped car pull pretty much all the way to the redline?

Has anyone got graphs of a standard vRS, and a properly mapped vRS e.g. Revo, APR etc. I want to see if would be any better than what I already have.

Sounds like standard to me. A lot of the VAG motors push out a little bit more than stock, but it doesn't mean your car has been remapped. :) Anyway, a remap should see it more around the 220bhp mark, not just a little bit above the stock 180. :)

Edit: Just read that it has been, but I say it sounds rubbish! ;)

Hmmm, just as I thought.. I've noticed the car seems to 'surge' when you boot it. It's almost as if the turbo spools up, creates massive boost, and then dumps it after about a second. I've been reading about problems with N249 valves and the vac canister not being too big to pull the dv etc etc. I'm just trying to work out if it's something to do with these, or that it's just a crap map.

Ideas?

It's got a rubbish map then! Should make 210 at the fly with a half-decent map.

My standard vRS made 180bhp/199torques

It's been remapped for sure.

Ignore what Jason says as he only knows about diesels :P

It doesn't seem a brilliant map as HP is a little low.

A standard car will never see torque that high.

Cheers babs, just as I was thinking.

I might try getting in touch with the previous owners to see who did the map. Should be a laugh.

The APR maps that Awesome do, are very good :)

I thought the torque was a little high, even for a remap. Revo reckon that their map will give approx 210ft-lbs, and awesome gti think that an apr stage 1 map will give about 240.

I reckon it's been mapped to have a massive torque surge at low revs, not necessarily to have big power gains. Maybe it's a decent mapping company who did it (Possibly not), maybe it's someone who bodged it (More than likely).

Would it be possible to download the current map using say, vag com, and upload a standard map to it? At the minute, that torque surge is a PITA. It kicks in, even at part throttle and makes the ASR kick in. Makes it had to drive without looking like a boy racer  Just thought the standard map might be more usable.

Cool, might have to start saving then. The current 'map' does my head in. :rotz:

Would it be worth going for a stage 2 map over a generic one? The only mod I have is a pipercross panel filter, but the exhaust is looking a bit rusty, so a milltek or blueflame might be on the cards at some point.

If you would like a Demo of a stage 2 APR map then a Demo can be arrange next saturday as i have to pop to Awesome to collect some parts.

I'm running mods below.

Cheers for the offer, but I'll give it a miss. Besides, I'll be at work anyway.:(

As bad as the current map is, I don't want to lose it and go back to standard, but I can't afford to get the full map.

Unless it's possible to upload the trial map and then revert back to the current map. If that makes sense.

I think if you get the trial it will revert back to standard.

is it silver?

might be a red dot map? they are ****e mate and not much power.

Hi

Yes it was good to see you

We was going to put the trial map on for you , but as we said , it would then go back to standard I am afraid :(

I am sorry baout that

I must admit , with all the extra`s that you get with APR if you have cruise control (that you have now) it is fantastic!!!!

It was good to see you , we definately have had a couple of Skoda days past couple of days too!!

Remember to let your insurance company know you have a remapped car. Depending on the increase and what you feel about the current map, you may want to revert to standard or if you are paying insurance on a remap, then you may want to get a better one. Getting a trial is the cheapest way to revert to standard.

Hi rk696, Performance Torque do decent remaps - only problem is they're in Wolverhampton!

I'm from the Huddersfield area too but it was worth the trip down there as they were doing a really good deal on a remap and exhaust package at the time. They have a sub-forum on here too.

I have had the APR trial and it was ok but for the money I had a custom one done and had a full tank of Vpower for the same money. and when it reverted to "std" I wasnt convinced it was totally std

could just of been me tho

Most remaps other than stage 2 to will see between 200 and 210bhp depending on other mods the map is being customised to.

A Stage 2 map will require a turbo back exhaust / a decent air filter and in some cases a 4 Bar fuel pressure regulator (certainly REVO do)

Just to correct you, you might of meant 210bhp as a revo stage 1 will give somewhere about 232ft-lbs and 207bhp according to there website mate.

Yep think that is what rk696 meant as my revo when stage 1 gave 210bhp.

Ye, maybe that's what I meant. I've been looking at torque figures and bhp figures too much over the last couple of days. It'ss all blurred into one lol.

Oh, and claytarget_god, the car is bright red so it can't be the one you're thinking of.

Just out of interest, how much extra power does an APR stage 2 give over a stage 1? Is it worth the extra expense of exhausts and FPR's? Say for example I got a milltek of blueflame turbo back back system, and kept the pipercross panel filter I have already, how much extra power would I get compared to a stage 1 map with the standard exhaust?

Sorry for all the questions...

Going from a Stage 1-2 you will gain around 30-40lbft torque and around 25-30bhp

Tis a slippery slope, this car tuning business. Once I'd got the map sorted out, I just know that I would probably find something else I 'needed', and wasn't cheap, such as an FMIC etc.

Bring on payday!!

I know what you mean billy! I had the APR trial too, and after it ran out I could swear that the car was quicker than it was before (by maybe 10bhp)! Plus the power delivery was smoother than I remembered. Like you say it could just be in our heads, or not.

I wonder if APR produce their own version of the standard map, which is better than Skoda's!

I was told by my broker that my insurance provider preffered performance mods to come in 3's. He gave the example of air filter, exhaust and remap. Not sure what that's about!
