Lowering & Speed Humps

Featured Replies

OK, have been browsing the site for a few months now, and my appetite for a few *cough* cosmetic mods has been well and truly whetted. I am partcularly interested in getting the handling a bit tauter, and a lot of people seem to swear by KS2's or 3's.

My question is, given that most suspension mods (other than a new ARB - on the list for the new year) lower the car by 30mm or more, how the hell do you avoid scraping the front on speed humps??

We have some pretty vicious ones in Hertfordshire, and with stock suspension, I still scrape the front on the inclined parking in my home town

How the hell do you guys with lowered cars cope??

find alternate routes and parking lol.. skuds not lowered yet still waiting for my kit..but my last cars lower then a frogs ass..

Not much you can do really - just take it easy and go at like 5mph over speed bumps!

If they are really bad take them at an angle, same theory used for ramps onto ferries if they are bad.

Many sports cars are lower than a std Octy, how do these manage in your area ?

Hi guys, I'm just about to lower my octy rs by 40mm ! Hope it doesn't look too low and silly on the car!!!!!! Anyway, I suppose I'll start to find out about speed humps/kerbs :o

just make sure you don't crack the sump. maybe a sump guard is in order??? I have already managed to crack my sump albeit the engine is a diesel enging. Sump guard is prolly the best investment i have made to the car followed by the kw3's :D and remap :D

I've done mine front spoiler badly when parking, must remember not to pull up to close to kerbs in car pars. Big chunk of paint miss now :thumbdwn:

Also managed to dent a sill whilst away in Dorset this weekend. And its the standard ride height for a vRS

30mm lowering + no speed bump problems. I only slow down due to trying to preserve the suspension a little bit, but there's plenty of travel and I've never grounded it out. :D

Give me a lift and I bet it grounds out

30mm drop i dout it bottom out its a conserative drop... my last car was 60-80 only reason it didnt bottom out is you just take your time

With my KW2's I have yet to hit anything other than kerbs when parking. The only problem I have is when exiting Stapletons Tyres in the High Street, Stevenage. I have to drive out the back. I have driven on and off Eurotunnel and various ferries with no problem, even the lane with the big humps between Knebworth and Stevenage poses no problem.

Good news then, will have to add KW2's to the growing list of things to get!!

Will these be OK in the Combi though? I have read in a number of posts re 17" wheels not being standard as the chassis won't take it (allegedly), so will lowered suspensions and a new Neuspeed ARB be OK?

Know what you mean about Stapletons though, have scraped my spoiler there as well, and I can't park on the other side of the street near the chinese takeaway as it always grounds out there also.

Hope it doesn't look too low and silly

mutually exclusive Jim :)
