Two things i'm wondering about the octy2

Featured Replies

Well month and a half into owning my octy and lovin it, allbeit slightly conserned about possible future engine vibrations.

There are two things I'd like to see if anyone can help me on

1. Is there any way of adjusting the dipped beam lights up slightly, when driving in the dark it is almost impossible to read unlit road signs and when following another car it is not illuminated until about 100yards away.

And

2. Is there a low washer fluid level bong like on my fabia? Ran dry the other day with no prior warning.

Thanks

Scott

Yes; dipped beam is adjustable. Why not pop back to your dealer and get them to adjust it under Warranty (I did with mine as the left & right were at different heights). Alternatively if you do a 'search' on here you will find instructions.

Washer fluid; do you have regular or maxidot display. On the maxidot you get a bong and orange visual warning (annoys the hell out of me!)

Otherwise; glad you are enjoying your vRS. :D;)

Might have to correct the waterfluid boing.

The LEs dont have washerjets for the headlights do they?

If not, they will not have the bigger washerfluid container and if so, they will not have the boing......

(or am I completely wrong now?)

I've not got the bong available on my '06 vRs without xenons and the large washer bottle...

I enabled it in VAG-COM, emptied the washer bottle and nothing happened.

Steve

Yep, exactly. vRSes don't get headlamp washers unless they're xenon-equipped, unlike you Elegance folk :D

Steve

It goes without saying that the L&K gentry would be showered with such luxuries :D

Steve

So I wasnt completely wrong

Remembered something about the headlightwashers though.:D

And as the LEs dont have Xenon nor washers.....

No; you were completely correct.

LEs only have regular halogen headlamps, so have regular size washer bottles (and no 'bong'). :)

My car has xenons, headlamp wash, larger washer bottle and a 'bong' :D

I guess the deciding factor is headlamp wash = larger washer bottle = 'bong' (xenon lamps being optional to this) ;)

I presume that you have checked that the electric adjustment is set to the right value (rotary wheel to the right and below the steering wheel)?

yeh i've played with that and it'll happlily tilt them down and back up but still not high enough for my liking.

Can the washer bong be fitted? Is it a case of fitting the larger bottle and enabling the bong?

Will there be the neccesary level sensor?

Doubt it very much; or if you could, would it be financially viable as I bet you will have to strip some bits out to switch the washer bottle over?

Why not just carry a 5L bottle of pre-mix screenwash with you in the boot? You are then able to refill the washer bottle anytime, anyplace, anywhere .....(Martini  ).

No !!!! don't put Martini in the washer bottlle !!!! (although having said that it may actually work as long as you don't get breathilysed :D)

alcohol content will be fine as anti-freeze; but you'll finish up with sticky paintwork. ;)

Yep, I'd agree - a retrofit would be more trouble than its worth I bet!

I just keep it topped up every 4th time I check the oil (so the bottle gets filled back up every month).

Us 4x4 owners get the washers and the bong as well so it's really just you Vrs owners that are left out... :D

Not only L+K owners, my Elegance Bongs too...

Now are we all to be arrested with theis conversation about bongs?

i have a 06 vrs with no bong for the washer fluid , the last car i had that didnt bong was an xr2i and that was 12 yrs ago, im a little disappointed but the car has plenty of other plus points.

I'm not that bothered, as the vRS has plenty of other plus points :P

I did find it a bit odd at the time, but as I said - I just top it up once a month during other standard checks, rather than relying on electronics to remind me :)
