OEM Xenons

Featured Replies

Were xenons an option on any other model of Fabia other than the vRS? Seen what looked like a "normal" Fabia with OEM xenons and wondered if they were retrofitted.

They don't come as standard on any Fabia model but were available as an optional extra across the board I think. Though you'd probably only have had them fitted on the higher specced models like the Elegance. My old 54 plate vRS had them and they were great. Really wish the SE came with them.

I thought Xenon's were only an option on the vRS to be honest. There was definitely something on the option list that was vRS only. Don't know if I've still got the brochure somewhere. I'll try and have a look.

Yep Xenons instead of the CD autochanger would have been perfect

If they were retrofitted, it would have cost well over £1000 to do :(

why are they so expensive!?

The headlamp units are quite pricey!

Can the headlamps themselves not be picked up off ebay a lot cheaper than that?

I got OEM xenons for my Gora for £350 for the pair with adapters and ballasts in full working order a few years ago.

The Fabia I saw with the OEM xenons, even had headlamp washers fitted, which made me think they were a factory option.

The Fabia on the front of the owners' manual isn't a vRS and yet still has Xenons... never seen one in real life, though!

Xenons were an optional extra at £500 on the my 2005 Fabia VRS, but decided to have a sunroof at £400, instead.

Looking back I wish I had the xenon's as well, especially during winter time with short daylight hours.

I suppose I could up the wattage, on my standard headlight's, but the heat probably would effect the headlamp interior.

Too late to cry over spilt milk I suppose.

I have both a sunroof and xenons, and prefer the former...

I've had the lights adjusted to the legal maximum height (I've watched the techy at the dealership do this! Not because I'm a pain in the ****, may I add ;)) and I still don't find them amazing. Maybe I was expecting too much?

Sunroof, however, is great!

I have to agree with you, like I said earlier I had xenons on my Gora from a V6 4-motion and wasn't that impressed with them either. They looked fantastic when outside the car and picked up street signs from miles away but general lighting from behind the wheel wasn't that great, so in the end I sold them and replaced them with Golf Anniversary headlights with White xenon effect bulbs which do a pretty good job. Don't think I'd shell out a fortune for them as an extra, but if they came with the car I wouldn't complain :)

i got them when i bought my car bonus :) didnt realise they cost so much

Not sure  When I was buying my vRS, I was trying to haggle Xenons into the deal. The salesman looked into it and asked the technician, who came back and said they are over five hundred per unit!

what power are the xenons?? id like to get some fog light bulbs and sidelight bulbs in the same colour not yellow

35w

Colour temp is 4100k

Probably to do with the self leveling system and the jet washers that must accompany HIDs by law.

I think that you will find that any factory fitted option on any VAG car is grossly over priced when supplied into UK. It is not that way in mainland Europe - or at least it wasn't when I speced up both of our VW cars for import. I had looked at buying a new VW for years, but when you loaded it up to the same "toy/tricks" level as a Ford or VX it just did not make any sense. Getting back to Xenons, the factory fitted lights do tend to be very very good, in my case, VW listed them as an option on the Polo 9N at launch - but they just never turned up, maybe due to little demand in any market. One thing though, as you get older than say 40/50, the extra light output of these Xenons makes quite a differance. Mind you I do like the electric sunroof as well though I would have thought that the A/C chiller would get disabled when the sunroof is opened (that is what used to happen in earlier cars with A/C).

Would be dead easy to do if you can find the headlights if a rear ended car :)

I've done it on my vectra sri

I had OEM xenons on my VRS and they were fantastic, so good infact I wouldn't want a car without them. The washers are part of the option and this also means you get a larger wash bottle and self leveling kit.

Hello ocrx8,

The salesman looked at me strangely when I said I wanted a sunroof, and he commented why have one when you have air conditioning?? and have to wait some 6/8weeks for vehicle delivery.

I enjoy driving with the roof fully open, something good about it, and nothing to do with ego I add.

The xenon lights I have seen around look brighter when driving towards them with someone approaching, but never been in a car with them fitted and seen for myself the difference.

You are aware of the headlight adjustment knurl switch I must assume, where you can adjust headlight height yourself??

I don't think the Xenon fitted cars had this switch. It is done automacally by the ECU and the self-leveling sensors on the rear suspension. To adjust the beams you have to use VAG-Com.

I think I buy another vRS, I will look for one with Xenons. However I've fitted high % bulbs to mine and they have made a difference.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but why do they need the washer jets in the bumper? Is it to cool the lenses or just shift the grime?

I believe the washers are mandatory because the any dirt on the lens will distort the beam pattern and possibly dazzle oncoming drivers. On another note, here in Barbados, there is one fabia here with xenons. It's a 2004 or 2005 1.4 fsi fabia "vrs" it came from the factory kicking out 130 hp. The reason it's a petrol and not a diesel is because we get crap diesel here, it's generator grade, so skoda, suzuki and vw among others dont offer diesel vehicles, but those that do, get quite a bit of trouble with them (apart from a few pick ups and commercial vehicles) and the service interval is something like 7500 kms
