Hi Tapir

I have done the mod myself, and what a difference it made.

I did get the gasket with the biggest hole and its been fine since

Fitted the gaskets and tested , oh yeah what a difference so for six months skoda dealers telling me there is nothing wrong, ten minutes and fixed

NICE ONE !

Yeah well I read this post, and I have been hanging on to my 9mm gasket without fitting for quite a while.

Wasn't to my mind bad enough to be warrant the effort yet until today!

Well this thread motivated me to bother today and it took a lot less than I though! A bit awkward to undo the torque at first on the bolts (with the odd position) and muckied by a clean shirt :o)

But what a difference it makes. Much smoother, wish I'd done it ages ago.

So the only hesitation was deciding whether to fit the gasket

I like your stye MoggyTech!

Shame you guys don't have a half decent dealer. West End Skoda (Uphall, West Lothian) knew exactly what the problem was and fixed it no bother, no arguments, no charge, and the car came back nice and clean too :D

I hesitated and wish I'd got it done earlier - I can now drive smoothly

+1 for West End Skoda in Uphall. They checked mine had been done before handing over the keys.

Wonder if mine has been done... it doesn't judder at all on tickover but there's sometimes a bit of hesitation at around 1800-2000 revs and I dunno whether this is a sympton too but I find it really hard to change gear (particularly from 1st to 2nd) smoothly.

Well....

Dont know if this is relevant but after I have filled air all round to 34psi approx, a few psi down on the front and reares, as well as naturally the hesitation fix

Well the car is smoother cos of the tyre pressures, and a LOT smoother on the engine, like its a different car altogether !

Well I was getting nigh on 60mpg today  Well I can normally get this anyway, but not when I'm rushing to work and hitting at least 80mph and while not foot to the floor, was not cruising either...... previously more like 70mph - or even less. So now I wonder how much money I'd have been saving

Can you believe, these EU regulations broke the car with the intent of emmisions, but in doing so screw over the actual fuel economy and ability ?

Tell me about it, I've got a 1.4 16v petrol and the throttle response is knackered by the emissions control. It pulls away from junctions like a 1.2!

I now have no st..st..st..stutter! It was quite bad before I did the mod - big thanks to Stu's guides on fabia-vrs.com. I also did the PD160 mod at the same time - total time to fix for both was 15 minutes and it's made a big difference to the drivability of the car
