deisel particular filter light keeps comin on

Featured Replies

Hi ppl,

I've bought a skoda octaria vRS,2007 model, I have owned the car for 5 months and I have a problem with the diesel part' light keeps commin on, the garage i bought the car off say to drive it hard for about 20miles and it will go off of witch it does.

the thing is THE BUGGER KEEPS COMMIN BACK ON, I had the car in london from cumbria the other week, got back my wife took the car out and it came on again, went to manchester airport from cumbria, got back went to the shops and the light was on.

The car is currantly @ the garage i bought it from but they say they cant find a problem,HELP!!!

First find a dealer who can handle this. There are some updates for the VRS TDI PD, 28E1 and 26E6, see if these have been done to your car already. If not, they have to perform these.

Second, regeneration of the DPF will take place if the car is driven steadily at between 2000 and 3000 rpm. Driving over 3250 will stop the regeneration process. Too low revs also, as the DPF will not get the right temperature.

Best gear to do this in is 3rd or 4th. However the car will also regenerated in 5th and 6th, will take a bit longer though. Because of the temperature of the DPF will be lower caused by the speed (wind).

Doing too much short distance trips will clog your DPF, as the DPF will stay too cold.

Thats TOTALLY over my head but the garage i bought the car from took it to our main skoda dealer and the have purged it before the last time we got it back (lol) but now they say they cant find anything wrong with it.

Hooking the car on the VAG COM computer should give some stored faults, only if it is the "normal" warning of the DPF getting clogged it will not be stored.

The warning light warns you of a DPF that is getting a too high load of soot. So you can try driving at around 2-3000 rpm in 3rd or 4th gear and start a regeneration process.

If the load of the DPF is getting even higher, you will be warned in the Maxidot to try to regenerate your DPF. If you are still not able to regenerate, it will go in limp mode and you will have to find a dealer to do a forced regeneration.

It amazes me that dealers are selling these cars with DPF's fitted and not fully explaining to people how to care for them etc. Suppose it's all in the handbook you would have though with it being so different to a normal car in this respect they would make a point of telling the customer all about it and what to do etc.

I would ask if there is a removal process for your cars DPF. Do you really want a car that dictates how you must drive it ? Worst idea since the DMF

The DPF can be removed, but the DPF will need to be mapped out. JBS and another tuner offer this service but the cost for this is about £1K, and includes a new downpipe, remap and labour. This is currently the only way, otherwise removing the DPF will throw the car into limp mode as soon as you start the engine.

Sadly nearly all new diesel engines now have a DPF.

the thing is, it does work at removing the soot/particulates that used to come out of the exhaust

i can't believe how clean some of the chrome tailpipes are on diesels fitted with DPF, then i look at my Fabia VRS and its horrible black sooty mess all over the rear :(

Yea, but doesn't it simply gather it all up, and then bung all the soot out in one big smoggy cloud every thousand miles rather than just a bit...ish constantly?

what should be coming out if anything is just ash, after the soot is super heated in regeneration

Bit like me owld log fire then really? ;)

I reckon we try to redevelop the steam engine.
