Why should I....

Featured Replies

MissyC, I drove the wrx and the octavia within 2 months of each other and went for the Fabia vRS instead :D.

On a serious note however the WRX seemed slow and didn't rev freely but I know that with a sport exhaust you can realise alot of power but how much that is I don't know TBH but I have heard cost of

My mum drive's an octavia, is only a sooty one, but an L&K so we'll let her off....

(and dad is aware of tuning "options" :D)

Did you put that spurious apostrophe in deliberately? :nono:

the vRS is also better looking than a scooby imo and if you have a word with you dealer the will chip it for 225BHP ;)

see that burble is it from the exhaust and what would it sound like if u took the exhaust of a scooby and fitted it on another car cause if u listen in 2 fast 2 furious the eclispe has a similer sound come to think of it so does the SRT-4 which has the same engine as the eclispe

The burble is due to the flat four layout I think as the headers are all different lengths which results in a burble rather than a "flat" sound. The exhaust just amplifies it.... :D Interestingly, the new STi models have more equal length headers which improves performance but reduces the burble....

thought about a wagon when looking to change the R19 and ended up with the vRS after going out in monkeyboys after he got it jabba'd. once i'd done that i fogot all about the scoob.

tbh the insurance would have been crippling and i didnt fancy driving through some of the areas i have to in the wagon, the vRS rarely gets a second glance and most of the scumbags that would be trying to pull me out of a car dont know what it is / capable of anyway.

test drive a standard one then see if you can wangle a drive in a "modded" one and then make your mind up. i think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I thought it was due to the firing order or something? Might've been misinformed though...

Rob.

Not too many variations on firing order possible with a four, especially horizontally opposed... usual in-line order is 1-3-4-2 not sure about flat fours.

Firing order may be a factor, but my understanding is it's mainly down to how long it takes for the sound of the bang to reach the exhaust... they all arrive at slightly different times which makes it burble :D

Think it's 1-3-2-4 for the Subaru boxer, but I can't remember (if I ever really knew ;))

Chris

so what would be the result if u did fit the sti exhuast to a octy vRS

Would it fit? :-) Expect it would be no different to fitting an aftermarket Octy vRS exhaust :D

That's what I'd heard too...which is why the sound is more "pulsy" than a 1-3-4-2 firing order. Not sure... :D

I was told by a knowledgeable man on this site that it was the cylinder head shape / chamber area that caused the strange sound IIRC. He also said it's purely "cosmetic" and actually has a detrimental effect on performance

Ie, the "headers ;) I suspect it was some sort of cost saving which led to them being unequal length, but performance can be improved by replacing them with equal length headers and the turbo spools up quicker and the car generally pulls better from low down. However, if you've heard a Scooby with equal length headers, you'll know how wrong it is ;)

Chris

Nope, equal length headers sound awesome :P

If you like the Jap superbike sound ;)

Chris

Pah, heathen! :P

;)

Jesus Jon. That's not good. :o

Like the black and lacy thing though. Did you say your Mum might be popping over on Saturday Josh?

I'm informed it's unequal length headers and horizontally opposed pistons gives it the scooby burble :D With equal length headers you get better performance but lose most of the noise as has been said above :)

Ya know in my 'younger' days I wanted to be a mechanic :P The college I asked at said they had places in the body shop :finger::mad: Didn't let gals on such courses in those days
