Why should I....

Featured Replies

...trade in my scoob for an octavia vRS

OK, I have a Sport and want more oooomph ;) But don't have the budget for a WRX.

And after reading about all of the scoob thefts and carjackings (greg.g from Brum was hospitalised for his Wagon this year  ) my son's got me interested in the vRS.

So... I know I'll get more oomph :D

What about road holding round corners, servicing costs, upgrades etc... tell me why you reckon I should make the move...

Test driving one on Saturday :)

But feeling guilty now every time I get into my scoob

Better reliablility I'm led to believe.

Plus you have an excuse for being on here all day.

Miss C,

I say this from considering the sccob myself, many on here come from wrx's and above. The sccoby I found to have excellent road grip on it's roads.

The Octavia RS or even the 4x4 quite simply matches it. Although the RS looses out on bumpy B roads...

Your getting about the same power but with no tranmission losses. If the transmission requirement is to keep 4x4 then the octavia 4x4 fits the bill.

I've not owned a scooby, but I've driven the WRX. I've now owned the Octavia 4x4 and vRS, I find the vRS alot more fun to drive, but te Octaiva4x4 had it's strengths, those lie soley in my book of the haldex/4x4 system. The rest can with expense be made equal.

Hope that helps, if it didn't I'm pulling away from WRX's ;) and we all know the (well you don't, but hopefully will) the ambulance chases evo's and scoobies all day long and has not lost out to anyone yet that we know off.

You will notice the umph over the sport. You may not like the FWD and it won't feel as quick as the WRX from the forecourt.

There is no doubt the scooby is a great car, has good presence and feels right. But as you say there are "issues" with owning them. For me along with the stories or high maintenace I got to here.

Basically, everything will be cheaper for the car and fuel economy will probably be similar, but you might find it doesn't have the outright grip of the Scooby (does the Sport have a rear LSD?).... If you've got an aftermarket exhaust on the Scoob, you'll definitely miss the flat-four burble too....

Mod-wise, vRS can be chipped to between 200-230bhp (depending on who you listen to ;)) for 500 quid and the handling can be improved with ARBs and KW's for about 1000 quid I think.....

Chris

 Not sure if you were in the same group as me on the last runout you joined us on, ask chris (charliewhiskey) how mine faired on the muppets wales camping trip, mixed with a few classic UK turbo's and WRX's and if anything was slightly held up.

You are more than welcome to come up and have a "proper" test drive over real roads sometime in a 4x4 if you wish.

Is your son on the board?

(yes, it's Josh)

(yes, it's Josh)

Blair Witch Project moment.

MissyC,

And what a very nice boy he is too  He even suggested that you go out in mine after visiting the dealer :D

Blair Witch Project moment.

What do you mean by that???

Mum, just get one! It'll be loads faster than your sport, and although your sport looks the business, the Octavia is a lot better built and I'm pretty sure after a 4-bar REVOing, a panel filter and a smoothed airbox, it'll shoooo Chris's WRX lmao

I'm sure Rich won't mind taking you for a blast if we see him down at JBS on Saturday afternoon... His has a REVO 4-Bar, Filter, and Turbo-Back Exhaust. (and some handling bits and bobs iirc).

Is this what is meant by a 'home network'? Couldn't you have just popped your head around the living room door and said this, in person, I mean speaking no keyboards?!? :D:rofl:

Who needs to talk when we've all got msn lmao

Point taken. I mostly communicate with my wife via text.

Hi Ian... yep, one of the multiforum driveouts you led the group I was in... first 'run' I'd been on I think and nearly scared myself to death over the tops at how fast my lowly sport would actually go ... vrooommmm. But not quite enuff to keep up with you :D

I would soooooo miss the growl from my exhaust :weeping:

Oh yesssss, if I go for the Octavia it WILL be revo'd :D

Edited to say thanks to whoever the top photo of the multiforum driveout belongs to

Then again, how many of our Mums drive around in Scoobys with WRC spoilers and 4" exhausts? Mine drives a Lupo 1.4 Auto

Will you be my mum too

I'm not exactly the earth mother type :P

But you do have nice tase in underwear ;):D

Mornin' Chrissy, glad to see you came over here. :wavey:

Can't really add much to what has been said, it is all about costs really. It is cheaper to insure, cheaper on fuel (probably about the same as the sport) and the servicing intervals are longer and the services costs less.

I've done several days out with the Scoob lot, don't think you were in my group at last years Welsh Camping trip, but it was more than adequate for leading a bunch of scoobs. IIRC Alison felt quite sick having had Greg trying to keep up with me just setting the cruise for 80 and then just sitting at that, even around the bends :D

If you haven't made up your mind by the end of November (or even if you have) and can make it to Anglesey. I'm sure some of us would give you a few laps out on track so you can see how they compare to various other cars in a more open environment on track.

Luv n kisses,

Jon

Oi!

Less about the underwear!

doesn't she read minds? mine GF does

Mornin' Josh :wavey:

Didn't I mention the time I wore your mum's underwear?
