Hdr

Those are looking good Rob. Just about the right amount of adjustment, without them looking over the top IMO. Think I like the 2nd one the most.

:) Before I HDR'd it, it looked pants - either whited-out sky or blacked-out church however I adjusted it.

I like the way it brings out details in the stone:

That's some good HDR work. The only stuff I ever tried went wrong..... :(

That's some fine HDR work there, Rob - not OTT like most of them :)

Really like the last church/cathedral one :)

HDR? Something for me to have a play with, woohoo!

They look really good - it's brought out the detail well, and they don't look 'overcooked' like a lot of people are fond of doing. Good work :)

Finally, someone who uses HDR to improve pics instead of ruin them

Nice work Rob.

Looking into HDR and found that ideally I need -/+2 stops on the camera. I did try the bracketing function on my camera (which auto does -1, 0 & +1) using Photomatix but wasn't overly impressed with the results.

What settings do you normally use and then what software to process the pictures as your results are stunning?

They're all done in Photomatix, on default settings with the odd tweak, from a single RAW image.

Not a fan of HDR, the images look fake? Maybe it's the man-made stuff, cause the flowers look really nice

How do you create HDR from a single RAW file Rob? I'm confused and probably need to read up more on the process!

If you open the RAW file in Photomatix it can process it and create the multiple exposures from it. Seems to work well :)

Excellent!

/goes off to get Photomatrix

:D

Typical, I can't take pictures at -/+ 2 automatically and now find out that RAW mode is out as well!

It's all down to you Rob that my camera feels inadequate:doh:

Matix Steve, not Matrix! haha!

Whatever! ;)

And anyway, I think I've just come up with a better, cooler name for it!

haha! :P

P.S. - where's my chain mail?? :D

You've already got some; you don't need any more :D

Great shots Rob. My own 1st attempts in a thread i started last week were of a similar nature, Trying to improve the existing base image rather than being one of those massively altered "un-real" images you see. It's very much 50/50 what people say to images like these as some expect HDR images to only be like the one's that are weirdly over processed. I admit i like those other style images but only if the subject suites etc...

Cheers

Dave.

I had a look at some of Robs previous postings and I'm most impressed - particularly this one at Saltaire but also his church photos:-

It reminds me of the one that Dave recently submitted here - #4.

This is one of Damoegans 365 photos and shows what can happen at the other end of the HDR scale:-

They're both different but good examples of how HDR can be used.

Now if only my camera would do a set of +/-2 or raw then I could have a play and submit some for criticism :giggle:

Rob,

Those 1st photos were great- I echo the comments on how it brings out the building stone

But I love this one below!

and if you put your car in any of the following three... you'd win this weeks photo comp I reckon!! :)

Post some more when you have time please!

best wishes

Lady Penelope

ps I'm never awake late enough to post in the "Wait for it" thread :S but do like to read it- so a belated congratulations from me on your good news

Thanks guys :)

I try not to over-process them but use it to bring out details and colours in photos. I also cheat and use a single RAW image :D
