Major service and cambelt change...

Recommended Posts

My 55 plate Fabia vRS is due a service and cambelt change - mileage is 33k.

I've been quoted £385 from a local (trusted) VAG specialist - the breakdown is as follows: £150 for service, £200 for cambelt, £35 for water pump.

Does this seem about right?

Cheers,

Neil

Sounds like a result to me! My 50K service and Cam-belt Change at a Dealers in Bedford cost me £660, and for that they also lost me my aircon cap, ignored three emails, then told me they had posted the cap three times and it still hasn't arrived. Next service I will be going independant too...

In all fairness, I think that losing the dust cover from the A/C service points seems to be "par" for the course as far as A/C industry is concerned - I can't say why it should be though! Keep at them as they could always buy in some new caps (most likely they will "get" one from the next car in - or isd that where you one went to!).

that seems like a good price to me... I've just been quoted as follows: -

A timing belt change, including the belt, tensioning roller, damper, relay roller, coolant pump and auxiliary belt is: £313.06

A full Service for the same vehicle is approx. £145 all inc.

I almost feel like they're trying to rip me off now! This quote is from the derby area by the way...!

I've posted on your thread but:

Timing belt kit £90

Pump £35

Aux Belt £10

= £135

3 hours labour @ £40+ VAT = £138

Total = £273

Therefore £313 isn't much above the base price I work on...

Its not a cheap job to do sadly and the timing belt kits for these engines aren't cheap really for a belt and few bits.

Hi Neil.

I have just had my 5th annual service done including cambelt change, new water pump, rear washer re- connected (yet again!) by a local VAG specialist for 364 which I think is reasonable and your quote is similar. Don't think you will get it much cheaper using genuine Skoda/VW parts.
