Winter tyres

Featured Replies

happy to help. Come march i'll put up the summer tyre test. Equally useful. I noticed while i was reading the test that there were many printing errors. Hopefully they'll correct them. If they do I will update the results.

Just put some Bridgestone Blizzak LM-18's on my Fabia today (mainly because one of my summer tyres has a weird bump in the sidewall and I don't trust it anymore). Temps in the Netherlands are currenltly 5-10'C in between 18:00 and 9:00, 10-15'C during daytime.

Had a test-drive today @11'C today, didn't notice any problems regarding grip. I think winter tyres went through quite some development over the last years, making them better in rain, dry but also more stable at "higher" temperatures.

Tell me more about the Blizzaks once you have more experience with them. I'm going to change to winter tyres in two weeks, but haven't decided on the brand yet...

BTW, welcome to Briskoda from a fellow cloggie! :D

I thought a lot about what tire/tyre to buy. I was thinking of:

* Michelin Alpin A2 : overall very good, expensive

* Semperit Winter Grip : overall very good, cheap

* Bridgestone Blizzak LM-18 : overall very good, okay-price, very good on wet

The thing that the Blizzak's are so good on wet made me go for them. Also the price was okay. Michelin is really expensive.

So far still no issues with the "hot" weather of the last days.

C'mon snow... fall down! ;)

Bedankt

I love my new TOYO PROXES T1-S which are 225 x 45 x 17 (same rolling radius as original 205 x 50 x 17's). The tread is very good in the wet and sticks in the dry like **** to a blanket. They look luverly too. Am I sad?!

I had Toyo Proxes T1-S on my car last winter and must admit I was very impressed with the grip in bad conditions, especially considering they were only

My deal to have a set of used winter tyres (used for one previous winter) fitted for free has resulted in a choice of Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW-3, as they were in the best shape compared to other used sets I looked at. My first impressions of this morning (cold and dry): the sides feel so much softer than the S-03s, so that needs some getting used to, but grip is already better. The S-03s weren't getting hot anymore and started to feel cumbersome to drive.

Have now found in the latest Auto Motor und Sport test that the Ultra Grips are excellent on snow and ice but only average in extreme wet-weather conditions - hrrm... Here's hoping for an old-fashioned freezing-cold winter then!

Try Vredestein Sportrac only independant dealers stock them but they seem to score well in all tests also are V rated which is what you want; check with your insurance if you want to downgrade the speed rating.

I was told by a tyre-shop that Vredestein winter-tyres literally melt away when the temps are >7'C.

I'd heard the same. Found that the Contis held on well up to about 12'C, Pirellis Snowsports about the same.

Goodyear Ultra Grips certainly don't at 12C...

They are fine below 3/4C, and very stable up to 210 kph (and they're not even V tyres!), as I found out this week :D , but above that - yuck. It's like driving on goo...

Told you to get the Contis or the Pirellis :D

Yeah, but this was the best used set by far... (I was getting them for free, remember?)

Those Conti and Pirelli buyers seem to be very hard drivers. :D

And as it's freezing outside now, I'm not really bothered. They're working like a charm now - cornering speed is very, very good. Will only need to put the S-03s back on at the earliest sign of Spring. :D
