Is it possible?

Featured Replies

Seems a silly question but with my car having a coolant leak above the gearbox. Is it possible the coolant has penetrated the gearbox and damaged my clutch?

The car when changing gear feels as if something isn't engaging properly or the turbo vanes are sticking. It's really worrying me, cars got the same feeling of torque but the speed isn't going up as quick as it used to

Cars really worrying me now and i'm on the verge of getting rid after this hassle it's causing me.

Anyone able to help with suggestions? I really don't wanna get rid of it

Gearbox is pretty much well sealed, so highly unlikely.

1: Fix coolant leak

2: Bleed clutch hydraulics

3: Have N75 and VNT movement checked.

If you worry about cars, you will always be worrying :rofl: If it's got boobs or wheels, it will give you problems. :thumbup:

Coolant leak was fixed on Sunday and coolant topped up. Then had a full system drain, flush and refill today

How do i bleed the clutch hydraulics? And whats N75 and VNT?

Clutch works off brake hydraulics and there is a bleed nipple above the gearbox to bleed the clutch slave cylinder, which is also the release bearing.

N75 is the vacuum unit on the turbo, that control the VNT (variable vanes). You need a vacuum pump to apply vacuum to the N75 and then measure how far the VNT control rod moves.

Sticking VNT usually results in overboost and limp mode, or underboost if it's stuck in the open position. Faulty N75 usually means permanent overboost as the VNT cannot open up as revs increase.

The whole lot is controlled by the vacuum block on the drivers side inner wing near the bulkhead.

A code scan would be a good thing to do as well. If any of the temperature sensors are marginal, the performance will be down. Also worth having the MAF checked, as it's a favorite for causing power problems.

Hmm car was in limp mode on Saturday night, and was boosting close to 30psi on sunday so from what u've said above it sounds like the VNT. Not sure wat it's boosting at now but i know it's nowhere near what it used to be

I'll have a word with the garage who does all my repairs tonight on my way home

.. but it's good fun tinkering though;)

got to disagree with this, there is a bung in the top of the gearbox casing for checking the timing off the flywheel , if this is missing, it will be possible for coolant to have got down onto the clutch

Well the car goes into the garage on Friday to get checked out, they're going to check the clutch and turbo rods as reccomended above

Ok Fabias really doing my head in now! Had it at the garage and they checked the clutch and road tested the car and can't fault it at all. But they're used to driving alsorts of different cars

The cars still feeling as though the clutch is slipping between 2100 and 3k and 2500 and 3k when gears are changed and re throttled. It happens everytime u open the throttle fully and change and open throttle fully. Doesn't have the symptoms of sticking turbo vanes as checked that after a quick search. Has only been like this since it went into limp mode on Saturday night due to the coolant pipe and the car effectively stopping itself from over heating

Anyone suggest anything else i can try? I really am getting ready to chop the damned thing in! I don't want to though so HELP :(

P.S Coolant pipe is fixed and had a full coolant flush and re fill

don't use full throttle, just feed the throttle in after the gear change

:lol: No fun in that when ur having fun on private roads

:confused::confused:

:confused::confused:

the same reservoir is used for the clutch fluid and the brake fluid,

the clutch slave cylinder has the release bearing fitted to it, inside the gearbox bellhousing

is there anything else you are unsure about ?

I've looked into this on the car and under a rubber stopper on a pipe connected to the gearbox is a bleed nipple

I've narrowed down the problem i'm experiencing to three things now

1. Boost leak due to fluctuating boost guage

2. MAF Meter

3. Throttle Body
