Bad screen misting on 2005 fabia

Featured Replies

I have a 1.4tdi fabia (2005) and the screen mists up badly and takes ages to clear, is this a known problem or do I have an issue to deal with?

Cheers.

just a guess but could it be leaky door seals? water gets in and mists everything up?

Pollen filter clogged, And plenum full of debris!

Cheers guys, any idea where the pollen filter lurks on one of these beasts and what they are like to get at?

This may be a silly answer mate but have you tried blasting it with the air con? The air con takes moisture out of the air and usually clears the screen rapidly.

Also, try to soak up the moisture using something like a clean paper towel. This will at least limit it re-misting up again as you will have removed most, if not all of the water content on the inside of the screen.

Long term do the thing above. If you hover under your glovebox in the footwell, you will see a long bit of plastic about 30cm long going front to back with two clips. Slide the clips outwards and the housing for the pollen filter will drop out. Replace filter in housing and reinsert, put clips back in the middle again.

Thanks guys, pollen filter seems dry, I'll have to have a peek under the scuttle for leaves and crap at the weekend.

It always has been a problem with my 1.4 TDI in cold wet weather. There is no heat for a while and I've no air con. The real problem comes when you get misting just after moving onto a fast road. I think that the first warmer air just causes lots of condensation on the cold screen. Without aircon the air from outside is 'wet' and nothing you can do about it. It isn't the water inside the car which is the problem. .A little washing up liquid on a cloth wiped over the screen can help. SWMBO's SDI has air con and warms up quickly so screen clears almost immediately.

Hi Captain H

Just take the pollen filter out and it will cure it

After reading this thread, I pulled the filter out of mine.... I think it was worth while doing, no wonder the car was misting when standing!

It sounds more likely to be leaky doors, the carpet is probably soaked underneath, which causes the car to mist up and not clear easily:thumbup:

hey,

i also have this problem, i took out the pollen filter and its brand new (as it should be, as i just had a service the other week!)

what else could it be, i dont think its leaky doors as i have never noticed soggy carpets etc, the misting only happens when its wet outside or really cold, and i need to blast it with aircon to clear it up

would be a great help if anyone could shed some light on the situation

cheers

I have the same problem with my fabia diesel , Dont know why .I live opposite a skoda dealership and every skoda (about 30) on the outside sales areas mist up badly whilst the odd non skoda sale are always clear .Ill try the washing up liquid on the screen

well ive got a dry pollen filter, and sealed up doors, and i still get some

Do also remember, If you're driving about with the A/C on, The humidity inside the car is going to be low, But as soon as you open a door all the air will be replaced with moist air which will condense on your windscreen through the night!

You tell its getting near winter time when the old 'my fabia screen mists up' question is being asked.

Mine does it too, but I haven't figured out why. It generally okay until I switch the heating on, and direct the air at the screen...

You wait until it starts freezing on the inside as well :(
