Playing .wma files

Featured Replies

Hi,

Bought a new Superb 2.0cdti cr Elegance 3 weeks ago and have used these forums to help with a couple things including getting my Blackberry Bold phone to work!!!

My latest problem is playing .WMA files of an SD card or the HDD. Getting the files transferred if fine and playing MP3 files is ok, but i cannot play .wma files. Hopefully someone can give me some guidance.

Thanks

Chris

The Manual states:

"WMA audio data (Windows Media Audio) can also be replayed by the unit and stored on the hard disk (HDD) providing this has not been protected by the DRM procedure copyright (Digital Rights Management). The operation and behaviour of the unit complies with the MP3 compressed audio data and are not described further."

and

"WMA Data (Windows Media Audio) The copyright of audio data compressed by Windows Media Audio, can also be protected by the DRM procedure (Digital Rights Management). Such WMA data is not supported by the unit."

and

"Only MP3 data and unprotected WMA data can be read from the SD card. All other data is ignored."

I've always converted my music to .mp3 format and there are several free ways to do this, here's one example.

I've played wma files from a SD card several times. No problem at all.

You can play WMA files, but they must NOT be DRM enabled. If you have ripped the CD's using Windows Media Player and its default settings then the WMA files will be DRM enabled and not playable by the headunit.
