IHI Turbo status

Featured Replies

Does anyone who is on the waiting list for the IHI turbo know the details of the current design issues for the Octavia, as I hear they are now fitting it to Ibizas now but need more time to develop for the vRS? I have not visited this subject in ages so forgive me if you all know about it and are eagerly awaiting to have it done.

How many vRS Octavia owners are on the list still I wonder?

From the lack of replies so far to this one it would seem this has waned in interest these days. Is this really the case or are those enthusiats no longer active on this site?

Chris

(i)Hi Chris,

I think people are still interested - it's just there is currently something like a 40 place waiting list and the best timescales are 'sometime next year'!!

Chrish,

have started a thread in the group buy section in connection with the IHI conversion,if we get 3 people then we'll be able to get a discount.

but as stated the waiting list is at least 40 cars long so i'm waiting till next year, also need to save the money up and get round to telling the otherhalf!!!!

It's 3 grand, isn't it? A whole lotta money for 50 bhp ish, IMHO.

Having looked around at other performance cars, tried an EVO VIII recently, they are all very expensive to run plus the Octavia is such a capable piece of kit for what it is worth second hand.

Lets see what the group buy might do to the price. Elton says expect it ready by the New Year- yes, he meant this one coming up.

Chris

in reality your talking more like 4+ grand but that will take you to 330-350bhp.

all the prices are quoted on Jabba's website.

I was looking at the lower level kit and that is 3373 before the group buy. Like several of us I have the Milltek and LAN already so should do quite a bit better than the quoted figure. They are fitting to Ibiza's now; anyone know the results in practice-did Badger Bill have this turbo?

Depends on whether it's at the crank or the wheels ;)

Although being serious for a sec - with these turbo kits you are right about value for money. IMHO if you are gonna spend the money you are better off going for a stage III or something :D

So take it you're out of it Dave, what about changing to the K04 with bigger injectors, seems to produce 270 easily in the Cupra R and less expensive? Can't recall what Mike had to say about it though other than he didn't rate it otherwise why the IHI.

Not going for the IHI myself although not personally sampled it so dont know what it's like. It seems quite a pricey kit! Looking to upgrade then Chris?

If it was reasonable money yes but I agree with Nick it is far too expensive at 3-4k.

Having driven an EVO recently its got me thinking as mine seems very ordinary after that and forget the handling. Anyone reading the Autocar article last week about running costs would be put off buying one. They do cane their cars though so I'm sure it wouldnt be that bad if drven reasonably. Didn't do Mitsubishi or the enthusiasts any favours.

Seems the KO4 kit is back on the table from Star then for under a grand, pity we can't seem to find out what its all about. Maybe Jabba will come out with a basic IHI kit for less money - they dont seem clear yet if you need to change the injectors?

If anyone cares to read the Seatcupra.net site seems Jabba are indeed fitting the first Ibiza's now and are getting 338bhp for the top-end IHI kit.

Chris

How much torque?

338bhp,thats the magic number to me,but i do agree with you in respect of the cost,at least 4 grand!?!

personally i'd rather have a bit less bhp and lots more torque,we'll see.

You may get a bit more power on the Octy due to the FMIC...Ibiza need a charge cooler as there's not enough space.

You'll have to get rid of the Milltek dp as the IHI requires 3'' downpipe.

Stage one costs approx

Des and Alex,

In answer to the question here is the latest on an Ibiza with the full IHI package.

"Power wise, they've done several runs. The average is between 350-360bhp with 300-310lbft! Very happy with those figures.... the torque is quite a bit more than I was expecting actually."

Pretty impressive figures I'd say. Wheelspin in 4th according to Badger Bill.

Maybe it is worth considering now the results are out??

Chris

Yes the leadtime of 6 months is very long but that is based on 40 orders and I do not believe there are still that many vRS Octavia owners ready to go ahead at this point in time so it may be quite a bit shorter.

Chris

Chris - those numbers are not just Octy's, they are Golfs, Ibizas, Audi's all 1.8Ts I should imagine!

Adrian' date='

I confirm they say a 3 inch downpipe is need to take the IHI turbo manifold plus a 100cpsi CAT, not the Milltek one. Furthermore a remap is compulsory so its over 3k.

I will see if I can find out about the torque. Are you planning to got for it yourself?

Chris[/quote']

Chris,

yes, you'll need a remap but, as you buy the IHI in kit form it can be fitted by your own preferred tuner and have them remap.

I don't know the exact difference between the Ibiza and the Octy IHI kit but I can only imagine it's minimal.......perhaps a different dp, FMIC and associated pipe work. I'm not sure if the 40 orders are inc fitting......but I doubt the availability would be any different for an Octy. If specific parts are required for an Octy it'll probably be longer.

Big turbo.....considering a few options at the moment.

Do you want to drop me a PM about this?

SkodiRS:-

what options are you thinking about then?

there is only a couple of us who seem to be interested at the moment,i want to have a ride in a IHI converted car to feel the difference for myself.

or is something afoot here?!?

Ive driven the Jabba Ibiza a couple of times, all I can say is :D Not only is it quick but its also a very driveable car & is equally happy just bimbling around & when being driven "sensibly".

I can add no more

From what I know the only real options are IHI or K04. I don't see K04 really gives that much more than what we've already got with Jabba on K03s whereas IHI is in a different league and very practical as you say. Rather expensive though.

What are your inputs Adrian?
