Octavia Estate 1.8 TSI SE

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new to this site and just taking a look.

I've recently ordered a Skoda Octavia Estate 1.8 TSI SE.

Just wondering if anyone can detail what the 1.8 TSI is like to drive etc...

Can't help you right now but hopefully my 1.8 TSI hatch will arrive in the next week or so.

I have a 1.8 TSI Scout.

It is quiet and seems to have plenty of grunt once it is up at 1500RPM. Below that it can be a bit limp, being a Turbo unit.

I still have not really seen what it can do over about ~3500RPM, since so far i have not had need to do so.

Nice quiet, smooth a bit lacking at the low end I've found, but that maybe down to the DSG box, not sure yet.

Very nice though.

I have had a 1.8Tsi Elegance for just over 12 months now, and in that time I have found it a relaxed refined cruiser (spent most of the 20,000 miles on motorways). It has plenty of poke when required (though does sound strained over 5000rpm). I have a six speed manual which is a great match for the engine, over it's life so far it has managed to maintain over 35mpg not bad considering that I am not the most economical of drivers ;)

Like others have said there is a slight lack of grunt if you let the revs fall below 1500 rpm but otherwise there is more than enough "go" to satisfy anyone who doesn't drive everywhere like they stole it :giggle:

I have had my 1.8TSI SE Estate (6 speed in red) for a couple of months now and have just done 2000 miles. As a family car it offers enough room and performance to satisfy me......it drives nice and quietly around town and has enough ooomph to surprise other drivers on the open road....was getting about 33mpg to start with but this has now started to creep up nicely if I use restraint on the loud pedal!

Everything has worked as per the manual.........heated door mirrors great on these cool mornings!

I also suggest that you invest in a SDHC Memory card for the Bolero.............I have half loaded a 8GB card with about 25 albums that has kept me entertained for a few weeks now..........25 CDs take up a lot of room when you can put it on a card the size of your thumbnail( I know MP3 is not CD quality but it is sufficient for car use)

I waited about 13 weeks for mine to arrive but think I have got a decent car for my cash.

Hi from Sydney Australia.

Got the estate 1.8tsi with the 7 speed DSG 5,000 klms, 2 months, 7 litres / 100klms.

Engine and DSG box are a great combination. The car has plenty go. Sure the vrs has more but the 1.8 has more than I can use on public roads while still keeping my licence.

I've got a 1.8TSI M6 with 35,000km. Stock it's a fun and stupidly economical car to drive (avg 6.5L/100km). With Bluefin remap it's simply a hoot and ridiculously quick and still averages sub 7.0L/100km fuel consumption.

6.5l/100km = 43mpg ish. Thats bonkers, and blatently not achievable long term (sorry).

Are you taking the figures from the computer, or working it out manually from litres used etc?

...stupidly economical car to drive (avg 6.5L/100km)...

Two possibilities:

1. you are driving like a gramp

2. your board computer lies

:giggle:

IMO 7,5 is near-minimum average, 8,5 can be achieved easily. Of course, we're talking about average, not minimal achievable figure.

I've been driving 1.8TSI for the last two years / 45.000km.

I have 1.8TSi Elegance hatch, now 1 yr old, only about 7500 miles, and goes like a rocket when conditions permit. Low down torque far better than 2.0 FSi it replaced. Excellent handling and brakes too. Manual gearbox. No complaints of any sort.

Have seen 43 mpg on the computer read out, but only after a longish motorway cruise at 60 to 70.

I have a 1.8 TSI Scout.

I'm still drooling over the pics of yours - I reckon it's one of the nicest cars I've seen on this site. Lovely example, and thanks for sharing

Very kind....

Good choice, I have had my 1.8TSI Elegance for just over a month and 1400 miles. Total average 33mpg with mixed journeys. Generally I have averaged about 35mpg calculating on full to full, the computer seems to be about 10% optomistic. I just did a 20 miile journey and got 47mpg on the computer, but that was crusing arounf 55mph as I had my new Plasma TV on the back seat (Christmas pressie to myself as if the skoda is not enough).

Honestly I have to say the 1.8TSI is one of the best engines I have come across in a long time, it has ample power and torque to allow you to drive along in pretty much as high a gear as you like and never feel you are going to get caught out if you need to put your foot down. So quiet and smooth compared with the diesel ford I had before. If you feel the need to cane it, the power delivery is smooth and progressive and if you have a mind you can hit 4 figues by the end of a typical slip road (accidently by myself just after it was run in) All in all very pleased but I do think if you do choose to use the power to its max the fuel consumption will go through the roof.

:D

Maybe just 3 figures by the end of the slip road, I save the 4 figures for the inter-galactic travel

It's what I've been getting the last 20,00km, since the 15,000km service. It does it week in/ week out. (sorry).

I can't be taking the figures off the computer because it resets every 100 hours (it's got 600 hours up now).

Just for you & slick123 I'll check my consumption spreadsheet........ Average calculated consumption for 34,355km = 6.7L/100km; Median calculated consumption = 6.6L/100km Average speed = 56kmh

Yes, sorry - I was 0.2L/100km out.

Slick123 - everyone drives like a grandpa here. Our speed limit on the motorway is 110kmh & they police it like crazy. Generally I'm up the bloke in front of me trying to get them to go faster - I'm just glad my commute flows rather than being a carpark. It usually takes me 40 minutes to do my 45km commute in the morning (7.00am) and 1 hour for the 50km run in the afternoon (16.00)

I drive like such a grandpa that I got a Bluefin remap & use the extra 100Nm of torque quite often. :-)

Maybe I've just got a freak motor? I am an economical driver though - Won the Australian Shell economy run in 2006(???) driving a VWA prepared Golf 1.6 petrol Auto & got 4.1L/100km and got $5000 prize money for my efforts.
