I had to dig mine out today with a shovel (and with the assistance of a helpful neighbour) . I was parked up beside a wall and a lot of snow was blocking me in- I thought I would be able to reverse back and pull away but couldn't get any grip at all, though I am on Dunlop Sports tyres which aren't really suitable for this weather. Once I had a bit of space the car was fine pulling well out of the snow (we had a further 4- 6 inches last night on top of all the other stuff, including compacted snow. That apart the car has been excellent getting about in rough conditions and keeping traction well. I think I'll seriously consider those winter tyres on steel wheels that Mytyres can supply if this keeps up for much longer.

There was an extreme traffic jam around Amsterdam caused by very slippery snow and/or iced snow. My Scout performed excellent with its wintertyres (Conti T810) but I got delayed by non-scout drivers on summer tires. 3 hours delay to drive the last 15 miles home. Argh!

If you hit the brake hard enough on normal tarmac the ABS also kicks in. As do the seatbelt reel locks for anyone who doesn't have a steering wheel to brace off :p... The stopping distances in the rules of the road book are becoming more and more fictional...

If the handbook is to be believed all sorts of stuff happens with the rear lights under hard braking, flashing brakes and hazards depending on how severe the braking. The recommendation with ABS is the harder the better if you need to stop ASAP. Don't know if it's the case on snow/ice, I suspect not.

Use "cadence" (look it up)braking on ice.

I don't think cadence braking offers any advantage on ice.

;) I thought with ABS you just keep pressing the brake pedal and feel the shuddering and then hopefully it stops !

Mines been doing great in both the ice and snow here in Lincs. Only problem I have is all the other drivers going so slow and holding me up..........

I recommend tailgating them. I hear it is safer in these conditions.

The BMW 3 series driver at work who has been taking the **** out of my Skoda badge for the last few weeks had to walk to work this week, :D My Scout has been absolutley brilliant here where weve had in excess of 10 inches of snow over the last few weeks, and I love the fact that your average knob doesent know that your in a 4x4 :rofl:B):D

happy days

My vRS has been crap in this weather. My knee-jerk reaction when it's time to change next year is to go for a scout :D

Hi all, I dont get on this site much! but have to sing the praisesof the scout. Its so sure footed, my wife does a daily commute from basingstoke to bracknell, about 26 miles, each way. you may be aware from the national coverage of the problems in basingstoke before xmas. I am more than pleased to say she is very very confident now. Especially the last few days where we have had about 9--12 inches of snow and Ice. My only moan and it is only a moan is the remote door opening, its a real pain in the butt with one bleep for the driver two for the passengers and a third for the boot.. still a superb car. regards mike

You should be able to change the door locking and unlocking options via your Maxidot.

Steve

Thanks steve, will try that out. regards mike

Seriously consider it - Jeremy clarkson said so before it even began to snow !

We now have 3 in the family ..... 4*4s that is , with the Scout being the latest edition . The oldest one was the first one ordered in the country , the day after Skoda released its existence in Car magazine .

The Scout just loves snow and hills especially on Goodyear Optigrips , though it is only used mainly on roads and metalled tracks up here in N Wales . I certainly would buy winter tyres for true off road work , but for that I would probably buy another car .
