Featured Replies

Only had our scout for 10 days but its getting about fine in 4-5 inches of snow in thats fell in southwest scotland in the past 2 days. I will need to try a back to back comparison on a steep hill against my jeep grand cherokee on all terain tyres and the scout on new road tyres.

No snow here worth bothering about in Castle Douglas :S

my quattro has been awesome, just wish it had some tyres made for the job like the scout :)

It's worth noting that the M+S tyres are not a specific winter tyre, they are just a tyre with a certain amount of the tread pattern open.

Many are still made from the same rubber as normal tyres and will go rock hard in the cold.

That explains why a silly woman in an X-Trail with "m+s" tyres managed to get it so wrong on a dual carriageway down here today!

Just a bit left on the 7 bends today though...

Whatever happened to 'Bob-a-job' week ? :S

Was down between gelston and Screel car park yesterday was pretty icy. Small amount of hard packed snow.

funny you should say that, the only vehicle i've seen off the road so far is a nissan X-Trail on the stocksbridge by pass and the rest of us going past quite merrily while Mr Piggy interrogated her

Well I always assumed that m+s tyres and winter tyres were one and the same, but this proves otherwise!

It also goes some way to explaining why our works Navaras and XC70s with their m+s tyres aren't as great in the snow and ice as our employer thinks they should be!

If you want a winter tyre, then it need this symbol on the side:

The website that came from makes an interesting read, although you can buy winter tyres that are V rated these days.

 Interesting read about the snow tyres but the 'normal' ones should be fine for me, I noticed today there was a lot of road noise coming from the tyres or was it because the road was rutted/frozen, my wife drove the car this morning and when she came back there was a clutch/brake type of smell under the bonnet, anybody else had the same problem ? could it be the braking of the wheels with the anti slip control ? cheers - Stuart

Had great fun again today in the snow the scout went everywhere my jeep went no problems. I was going up hills easyly that had loads of cars parked at the bottom that coudnt get up the hills. The only problem on the 225 width road tyres is they dont bite through the snow and you can loose traction on steeper downhill bits if your not carefull.

 Manchester had plenty of snow this morning like 6 inches and the Scout performed brill !

Overtook a Shogun this morning on a slight incline who's wheels were spinning and getting them nowhere emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I let my missus drive my car the other day and she killed the clutch! Now im stuck in a FWD car instead, just when I could really do with it :'(

We could do with some snow-based Scout pics! emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Will this do?

4x4 only access on the untreated top road on some of the smaller the hills across from the town. Also had to make my own layby by gently driving into the verge (hence the fog full of snow).....

....meant I was perfectly placed to go boarding in the fields on the lovely powder.

Just a shame to be back at work today!!

Certainly a good time to have 4x4.

Niall
