Replacement for rear bumper reflector?

Featured Replies

The low level reflectors on the rear bumper look like the are a bit OTT and stick out like a sore thumb. I can't imagine they are a legal requirement, are there any good after market replacement parts maybe in black plastic? or even something to get colour coded?

They are a legal requirement if you have the FL Octy that doesn't already have reflectors in the light clusters. Otherwise, you'd be fine to remove them if you wanted to.

They are a legal requirement from what I can gather.

When I used to own motorbikes everytime I took them for an MOT they used to stick a red reflector on the bottom of the numberplate and charge me £3 for the privilege. They looked so naff I ended up ripping them off. What the hell is the point to a reflector on a bike that has its lights hardwired on?

I guess it would be a case of enabling rear lights as DRLs (for safety) then clipping the reflectors back on for an MOT.

As Karlos69 said, they are a legal requirement.

That is why you cannot park facing traffic in the hours of darkness, the rear red reflectors ensure your car is visible in the absense of street lighting and/or parking lights.

The older rear light clusters have a red reflective strip intergrated in to them dividing the indicators and reverse lights, on the newer clusters this reflective strip has been made clear to give a more modern look and the reflectors moved into the bumper.

I'm sure they'll pull off if they are that much of an issue (not sure if they are glued or clipped on?), can't imagine the local plod noticing they are absent, no doubt your MOT tester will have an issue with it though...

My 2008 Scout has the reflective strip in the light clusters AND the reflective strips in the bumper so I wouldn't have thought removing the ones in the bumper wouldn't be an issue from a legal perspective...

i dont know what colour your car is , what about tinting them with rear light spray im considering doing this to mine, they should still reflect light through them but look a bit more colour coded.

My link

so the strictly legal brigade would still be able to see them reflecting!
