octavia vrs shock absorbers

Recommended Posts

hi guys, can anybody tell me where to get standard replacement front and rear shock absorbers from?

i ordered new ones from euro car parts & they were supposed to be fitted today but when the old ones were removed it was apparent they were different. basically the fixing point for the drop link to attach to isnt there?

i spoke to them and they told me its the only one they have listed so it will be main dealer only?

i have tryed a few other places that have said the same thing that its main dealer only, can anyone confirm this and if this is the case is there another option available? i dont want to spend loads of money as ive just replaced both wishbones, new top mounts all round & a new clutch with dmf so the moneys running out fast.

any help or advice will be appreciated

thanks in advance

Hi there it is strange that Euro car parts don't do these as they do the ones for the Cupra R, Audi TT and S3 which share the same drop link arrangement.

You could try these VAG part specialists

FYI ive just priced up new front and rear shocks and springs for my 02 VRS from a main dealer - £633.78 inc vat!!!!!!!

Yeah exactly!

If you want new suspension it's normally cheaper to get uprated parts, because Skoda extract the urine on suspension.

I had to pay £75ish for just one poxy front spring once! Total rip-off.

Get some coilovers if you want value for money and excellent handling. Or Koni FSD's and H&R springs if you want to go uprated but keep the comfort.

If you're not interested in upgrading, then like Bowders said, I'd try GSF.

Coilovers all the way

just wind them up to the same ride hight as stdand it will be fine plus for £480 you cant go wrong

I would like to go in a std car again just to compare lol, cant remember what it felt like now

OK, thought I'd put my experience here so others don't waste time.

Skoda VRS Mk 1 front shocks:

1) I bought GSF's Boge Oil shocks, but they don't have the drop link bolt on, so won't fit. Great.

2) Returned them to GSF. Apparently all the part number options (Boge, Bilstein etc), point back to the same shock.

3) Explained to them they need to adjust their system (as there's a cryptic note re not suitable for an Audi A3, but nothing re Skodas.)

In short, they can't supply the front shocks, and neither can Eurocarparts (assumption).

I have 2 what I think are correct part numbers going forward:

1J0 413 031 CM

"Shock absorbers for sports suspension"

These are the correct items, but GSF can't get them. Can't remember the price, just under £100 I think.

JZW 413 031 N

"Gas shock absorber 'eco'" £58.96

These are apparently cheaper versions of the above, again not from GSF.

So will continue searching...

Here's the diagram, part num 22A is the relevant bit, and what they gave me was 22.

Try you local TPS - I recently got 2 front shocks for mine for £37 each plus vat, with the rears, new drop links, top mounts etc (from local factors) it all weighed in at just over £200

Is there anything else worth changing while doing the springs and dampers? I've got a Lemforder top mount kit and Febi upper spring plates saved in my eBay watch list for some reason.

Top mounts definitely, possibly the fixing bolts too. Seem to remember from the autodata instructions that they should be replaced. Worth considering new drop links on the front as well, easier to chop the old ones off than fiddling with seized nuts
