But if you look at the section for "Would you buy this car again?" you'll find:

5th - Skoda Fabia (98%)

6th - Skoda Octavia (97%)

I see MG Rover have been nailed in the survey again. Why do people still buy them?

I suspect an answer shortly :D

Has anyone noticed how the parent companies fair against the companies they actually own? Everyone who is part of the VAG group is above VW, smart are above mercedes, Lexus are above toyota, mini above BMW, Jag above ford etc..... How strange

The sales figures would suggest that people don't.

Or at least 50% of them don't anymore

To be honest the 75/ZT is a very good car, built and designed by BMW money and uses quality materials inside and out.

I used to own a 2.5V6 and never had a problem with it other than high fuel consumption.

The rest of the range is very poor though and no face lift can hide it. The driving position and build quality on the 25/ZS are both dreadfull.

Rover dealers also charge the earth and offer crap service and customer care.

I hope MGR can turn things round but at the moment it doesn't look too good does it.

Cheers

I did consider getting a second hand ZT190 instead of a new Octavia but having driven one; they are slower than the 620ti, don't have enough head room for me and would loose money like there's no tomorrow. I do like the look of them though, especially in Trophy Blue.

In my defense, the reason I bought the 620ti (2 years ago) as for just over 4 grand, how many cars can you buy that have 200bhp, low mileage (sub 50k), less than 5 years old (at the time) and still have a good equipment spec?

I really, really wanted to buy an MG, in an attempt to help prop them up until they can develop something a bit more contemporary. But in the end, I couldn't face parting with cash for a below-average motor.

I've had British cars in the past (Minors, Minis, MGBs, that sort of thing)and I've still got an old MGB, but the industry went a bit wrong in the mid-70s, and never really recovered. It's terrible, really. I hope they survive, but I can't see it myself.

I used to sell British Leyland AKA Austin Rover AKA Rover cars from 1980 to 1987.

They were clever designs, poorly built and using nasty components.

I hope they die, as there is no place in the world for crap. I say this from bitter experience, as I suffered because I naaively sold this stuff believing it to be good (and some WERE good, most were not) only to be let down time after time by failures of spectacular nature and regularity.

The Triumph Acclaim and Rover 200/400 Honda based cars were much better, especially the Honda powered ones though!

Die Rover.

I really like my 214si. Possibly sad, but who cares; it goes well enough, gets 45mpg without having to worry about driving economically, it's cheap to service and it's been reasonably reliable. I even considered buying one of the knock-down priced new ones... briefly.

That said I don't think I'll miss it terribly once my Fabia arrives. :)
