Mud Flap Fitting

Featured Replies

I think I need to get some mudflaps front & rear - a white car is very nice when its clean but it does show the dirt thrown up in this weather.

Has anyone on here fitted them themselves and how easy is it? I notice that they are pretty cheap in the accessories brochure.

Hi,

Had them fitted by the dealer so cannot comment about the fitting , but the flaps are very small and their usefulness is limited (especially at the back). I have always put flaps on all my cars and would not be without them no matter how small (neat) size they are.

I have also fitted mudflaps to all my vehicles. I had the flaps fitted by dealer, they are very simple to fit, as with my previous Mk1 Superb they were not fitted correctly it only took a few minutes to remove and fit again. They are quite cheap to buy. If you have 18" wheels they are not very efficient.

I have purchased another set not genuine to trim and add to the originals. Mudflaps are almost essential in Cornwall, they love just tar spray and gravel, and I expect top the league for worst maintained roads in U.K.

I fitted both front and rear mudflaps yesterday, no problem - took me just about 1 hour.

Fitting is very simple, just jack up the car (front or rear depending on which you are fitting) remove wheel ( makes fitting a lot easier)

At the rear, there are three torx screws holding the wheel arch liner in position. Place new mudflap in position then replace screws through liner.

Voila - job done.!! Now repeat for the other side.

The front is a little more involved - after putting car on full lock, jack up car and remove wheel - again remove 2 torx screws holding the liner in position

place mudflap against wheelarch you then need to drill a 7mm hole through the bottom mudflap hole to accept a push in fastener. There isn't a lot of room

so a short drill or right angle drive will make job easier. - Even so it is not impossible just a bit more fiddly. Don't worry about drilling the hole - it is going into

the liner.

Hope this helps.

Like you I did mine yesterday - managed to do them with the wheels in place - didn't have a 7mm drill bit so used a bradawl to make a pilot hole and used a large self tapper on the front mudflaps for the 3rd fixing

A lot easier than I thought it would bit - hardest part was getting the lips clipped in at the top of the mudflaps at the rear.

I know this is an old post, but these helpful "How To" ones are often referred to.

I just did mine without having to remove any wheels.

In my new Skoda Superb there is a small "L" shaped tool in the spare wheel tool kit (it has a flat screw driver at one end and an allen key hex head at the other.) the tool is located in a hole at the top of the foam tool holder near the wheel nut spanner.

This tool is the perfect fit for the hex head screws and also fits between the wheel arch and the tyre.

Was able to install the mudflaps in around 15 minutes.

Out of curiosity how much are the flaps?  Do you dip them in hot water first?  That used to be a tip when fitting flaps.

No need for hot water they were not extremely tight. A tip for getting the clips on is to push them on at the top of the wheel arch then slide them down before fastening.

Cost was about $75AUD from local skoda dealer (cheaper than superskoda inc postage)
