Cornering Lights

Featured Replies

Just took my FL vRS into the dealer today to get the cornering foglight function activated (only collected it last week).

They had never heard of the cornering foglight function, and were convinced it was only an option with the xenon lights (I don't have the xenons)

Anyway, after showing them the relevant bit of the manual (nice to see the technicans have read it :p ) I managed to persuade them to plug the car in to the computer and check, but after much scratching of heads they said again that my car didn't have that function as it doesn't have xenon lights.

Having read the rest of this thread I know xenons are not needed, and get the feeling they don't know where to look to find the settings for it, as other people have the vRS with it enabled. If I could turn it on via maxidot I would, but it's not there as an option.

Having said all that, I don't know if it's that useful to be worth trying to find someone with VCDS to turn it on for me....

Ah,

you may have saved me spending hours going through google to find the answer lol

If you have xenons on the VRS do you have cornering lights (in the fogs)?

My understanding is that you can have cornering fogs on the FL vRS regardless if you have xenons or not.

That's true but VAS might still not be up to speed yet due to the new controllers so VCDS will be required

And it might be worth waiting for anothe couple of releases for the FL to be properly supported, Nick was a bit wary about doing anything to mine the other night... The big red warning effectively saying "Don't make any changes here as the car may never work again" was a little off putting and when reversing the changes we'd made, it didn't generate the original code...

I really want this enabled as well, my dealer couldn't be arsed to even attempt it.

I also want comeing home/leaving home lights activated.

Have you got Maxidot? If so you can control these functions.

On MFD go to settings then Lights then tick a box for each of them. You can also go further and decide how long you want to have the lights on for.

I got my dealer to activate the teardrop wipe on the wipers today

The maxidot trick only works if you've ordered the auto dimming and light assist. On cars without this it's a VCDS/Vagcom hack

Nah, had to keep costs down to a bare minimum.

What did you say to your dealer? was it the one in bedford? Even though I got mine elsewhere i might try and get it done there.

Try the VCDS member list instead of Progress.

Getting mixed reviews of them, mostly bad. Meaning a trip to P'boro next time I need dealer stuff doing!

What's the norm for contacting VCDS peeps? any money exchanging hands, experience etc?

Cheers

Most will do it for free/beer money.

Or in my case, as a non drinker, chocolate or Pizza B)

Cool, just need to put some feelers out there then for anyone who wants to help me enable cornering lights, coming/leaving home and hazzards on emergency braking. Anyone?

I'm really struggling to understand why people want this function.

In any car I've ever had, putting the foglights on gives near enough zero extra visibility in clear conditions. And even if it did, the extra light would be so close infront of your car that it would be dangerous to look at it- you should be loking much further ahead than the end of your bonet when you're driving.

And am I the only one who thinks cars just look daft coming round a corner with one fog light on? Always looks to me like you're a chav who hasn't realised one of his fog lights has blown.

Now headlights that actually swivel when turning- that would be useful.

They do make the difference when its dark, and as for looking where you're going, they only come on at very slow speeds. Next time you're out and about down a lane at night, stick em on and see what's lit up.

The emergency hazzards are standard and already activated on the vRS mate. They have also been tested on here recently ;)
