Is this a record?

I've got the michelins on my furby, 10k done and seems to be plenty left, could be driving style as i dont generaly go mega fast round corners, but do boot it a bit on the straights. looking for a decent wet tyre when i do change, as i find the traction not to good in the wet. I've also read somewhere(not on briskoda) that it's a good idea to swap fronts to back at around 10k, should i?

Think it was the long term test in autocar btw.

cheers

Jonno.

Thats what I done. but think it was around 8K when I swapped them. It just to even out the tyre wear.

As you are SO against modding I would have thought you'd be replacing with the standard tyres.

Im on 30K and they aer still ok :D

ok, ive had me 17"s on for 10k, but still... 20k out of them - you must all drive like looatics!

Remoulds? :thumbdwn:

I wouldn't have remoulds anywhere near my car' date=' in my own humble opinion.

I used nothing else when I was a youngster and on a budget. Remember that lorry firms and bus companies use them. They really are at least as good as cheap budget tyres.

Yep. I'm probably the only person on this forum who's average MPG (#2 setting) is constantly less than 40 :D

Got 3000 miles out of a set of Yokohamas on my Mk 2 Golf GTI

Got a similar amount out of a set on my Mini - then the wheel sheared off on the M56 and it died.

How's it different to if your pads or discs wear out and you replace them with non-standard items?

On my Polo GTi, the Toyo's on the front lasted no more than 3 months (6k) before they were bald.

Oh, and LMAO @ EddyH. Perfect mate.

Did I say it was any different? When I need new pads I'll be looking for better ones.

Also, Josh, I fail to see what was so funny about that?

Have a look at a certain thread you started recently. Are you not concerned about your warranty? I assume you'll be getting tyres recommended by Skoda and having your local Skoda dealer fit them?

Surely they would not invalidate your warranty for that?

I'm not sure if you've got a point here, or whether your just trying to wind me up?

I see the point your trying to make but tyres are a little extreme.

Have to agree i doubt tyres would invlidate your warrenty? I cant see anything that can mechanically go wrong with the car that tyres are to blame

I see the point your trying to make but tyres are a little extreme.

It is extreme but pbirkett says he won't mod due to his expetionally bad luck. An example of exeptionally bad luck would be fitting stickier tyres and having the diff brake. The dealer examines the car and says the diff snapped where it connects to the drive shaft due to the increased load put on it doing a standing start with more traction than the car was designed to have due to stickier tyres. Extreme but possible if you have extremely bad luck.

Tyre wear is the one major downside to diesel power for two main reasons; firstly, and particularly relevant to the front tyres is the simple fact that a diesel engine is so much heavier than a similarly sized petrol engine. This is because the wall thicknesses around the block are 'beefed up' to cope with the much higher cylinder pressures necessary to ignite the fuel.

The second reason is torque. Diesels produce their maximum torque at a much more usable rpm (typically 2500rpm) whereas petrols produce there maximum torque right at the top of their rev range which is only periodically accessed. This combined with the fact diesels generate substantially more torque anyway mean that the poor old tyres get a right pasting. Have you tried rotating (front to rear) your tyres every 6months?

To be fair, 13k miles sounds reasonable for a vRS. I previously owned a Focus TDCi with less power and less torque (admittedly it didnt have traction control) and the fronts were worn out in just 12k!!!
