Dealer retrofitted accessories

Featured Replies

Looking to get Rear Parking Sensors and possibly bluetooth fitted to a greenline that i'm going to order (99% positive). To get it done in the factory will take 10 weeks where as i could have a car in a week or two if the dealer retrofits it. The dealer said that he's not sure what the difference between a retrofit and factory installed sensors on a Greenline. He said you'd hear the tone through the radio but probably wouldnt have a display like in an Ambition but he doesnt know if a factory fit in a Greenline would have the display\radio display anyway as he hasnt seen them on a factory one. The retrofitted ones wont have a button beside the gear stick and are only enabled when the reverse gear is engaged. Anyone know if there is a difference?

Also the bluetooth wouldnt be just a generic bluetooth connected to the radio. How does the Factory "Phone preparation with bluetooth" as the price list and spec calls it differ and is it possible to get it retrofitted like this?

I have the reversing sensors on my Greenline which were a factory fit - they come on automatically when reverse is selected , the tone sounds through the radio (the sound of the radio station is reduced when turned on) and the display is shown on the screen (Standard Swing radio).

I keep finding little things out when driving the car - for example, if the wipers are switched on slow speed and you come to a stop for any reason (e.g.traffic lights) - then they go into intermittent mode, if they are in fast mode and you stop , they go into slow mode.

I have a separate Parrot Mini Slim for my Bluetooth phone - much cheaper than the Skoda option.

Hope this helps

I was talking to another dealer and he said the retro fitted parking sensors dont come through the radio or display and are only wired to a small speaker on the back. That sounds fairly rubbish. Which dealer is right or does it have to do with how each does it?

The second dealer you spoke to is correct.

The retrofit parking sensors do not integrate with the display, and they install a small sounder somewhere in the boot of the car to give you the audible beeps.

It's always best to go for the factory fit sensors, in my opinion, and they would be well worth the extra waiting time.

Bagpuss.

It CAN be retrofitted with OEM sensors to integrate with the radio etc. All you need is a wiring loom, a controller and the sensors. Would probably be a lot of money though, and not something a dealer would take on, especially when they can fit the aftermarket kit for a fraction of the cost.

Nothing wrong with the aftermarket kit mind, I'm firmly of the opinion that if you are reversing you should be looking behind you - not at some little diagram on the radio.

Agreed

There is nothing wrong with retro fit parking sensors but they will never look as good or have the same functions you can have with factory fitted ones.

Is it really that important to save a few weeks waiting for something that is not as good?

I agree, but there should be no aesthetic difference really if they are colour coded - the bumpers are marked on the inside where they need to go etc. The only real difference is losing the display on the radio - something arguably not a few weeks wait worth ;)

Good point!

It kind of is...my own car is already out of date with its NCT (road worthiness test) and is due it next weeks where it will have another 6 weeks before it has to be tested again because it will more than likely fail. Can get 5 penalty points for driving without an NCT cert. Also tax and insurance are up next month too. I really dont want to spend any more money on a car i'm going to scrap. I've to buy a new headlight bulb already for it and even though its just €10 its just ****ing me off. Now that i'm set on getting a new car i want to be rid of it.

I underestimated the demand for new Greenlines and from talking to the dealers they did too!

Wow, in the UK you can't get points for no MOT - just a fine. :)

Sounds like you need to sacrifice the diagram on the screen then emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

It really is down to how fast you want the car, but if I had the option I would go for the factory fit.

Then get the retro fitted ones (but don't look in the manual to see what the factory fitted ones can do) ignorance is a wonderful thing and im sure you will be happy with the dealer fitted ones - just make sure they fit (and colour code) the OE flush sensors and not 'any old' cheap kit.

Ask the dealer for "a loaner" while you wait for the car to come in? I have done in the past, they usually have something about that they could let you use

Thats a good idea actually - worth a punt.

And make it VERY clear that if you go the retrofit route, they use a genuine Skoda kit. This means they don't have to chop any wires etc, and they will look OEM. :)

Placed order for my Greenlinde this morning :)

It turns out that due to the complete lack of Superbs here in Ireland that practically every new car sold has to be ordered from the factory so getting them fitted there. Apparently there is a problem in the factory with right hand drive production that is delaying manufacturing so was told it would up to 11 weeks
