More LV disappointment

Seems like LV are taking a heavy stance on this?

Seems to me that all Briskoda users who are modded and insured with LV should contact LV to have this checked. It also seems to me that with the way insurance is going, modding cars will become a thing of the past.

This does not bode well for modified cars at all :(

Wonder if the great modabstainer has anything to say about this? :D

This does not bode well for me at all... :(

Its only a month to my renewal so will leave it for a short while but I can see myself going to Adrian Flux or similar... LV will be doing themselves no good by doing this as I was prepared to use them for years to come after their good service during my claim... Now it looks like they're gonna scupper my goodwill.

It's probably because of claims like yours that they are ditching modified cars

:iagree: But I was sort of hoping I was a minority and not everyone with modded cars with LV tried to get artisitic impression scores on Welsh A roads... :)

Seriously though, its quite likely that Anglesey will be my last modded drive out, as if anywhere else is over a grand I shall be forced to return my car to as standard as possible... As much as I'd not like to do it, I will if pushed!!! :(

Their underwriters have obviously decided that modded cars cause a disproportionate amount of claims and declined to cover any more and LV are stuck with that.

I'm not sure of the legality of them stopping cover mid-policy , especially if they aren't telling people though.

Exactly! If it weren't for this place there's no way I'd know - and it was never mentioned to me when I changed my address with them a couple of weeks back. I shall be ringing them once I get back from Canada, when the 21 days come into effect, to give me the best chance at ringing around... This isn't good for the morale though. :(

It always sounded very suspect to me when they said that they didn't need to know what modifications you were making. I for one wouldn't have driven a modded car unless I had it in writing that I was covered.

The suspicious part of me wonders if the underwriters were not fully aware of what the salespeople were telling customers about mods , and now that they have found out LV have sold policies that they have no cover for.

LV's General Conditions allow them to cancel your insurance if they write to you, giving seven day's notice, at your last know address. You must then return the certificate of motor insurance to them. They will then refund the part of your premium which applies to the remaining period of insurance.

Until such time as they do that, anyone insured with LV who has notified them of all mods has a valid policy. I await my letter...........

The pistonheads thread seemed to suggest that they weren't actually writing to people though , just waiting for phone calls.

Either way , something very odd is going on.

I take it you declared everything Denis?

What about those who were told that they didn't need to bother informing LV of mods , 'cause they could well be driving without cover.

We are looking / working on a new insurer in case this sprials ;)

Modified cars are part of there chalk and cheese operations along with many other car clubs.

I am calling LV on these issues.

they have to write to you, and if they are like the company I work for they will be sending the letter recorded delivery!

(It is a condition of any car insurance that you declare all relevant facts to the insurer.) Meanwhile I am NOT going to phone LV, and hopefully they will not be writing to me before renewal time... :sofahide:

Who dares me to phone LV pretending to be denis

:grumpy: ..

It is very imporant legal issue that they send out their intention to cancel the policy in 7 days. They cannot simply say they will be no longer be insurering modified cars and only tell you if you phone up to change your address. That's illegal if that's what they are doing,

Their own policy wording states that they must inform you in writing.

Ifthey ARE cancelling when people call up to make changes, then i'm sure Trading Standards and the Insurance Ombudsman would be interested.

I'm with Denis on this one, my cover is valid until i'm told otherwise.

A year or so ago I changed to L&V after previous insurer refused to continue covering my scoob (only a Sport ffs) as I'd put 17" instead of standard 15s and aftermarket backbox on

L&V said they only needed to know about any changes that would affect engine power, eg remap, exhaust from centre forward....etc

This morning called to transfer insurance from scoob to Fab vRS arriving on Wednesday. I asked all of the pertinent questions regarding cover for ANY potential mods I am likely to make, so was redirected to another dept.

They reiterated exactly what had been said to me beforehand - only need to know about mods that increase power. He is going to confirm with the underwriters to be certain. Will know the answer within 3 days.

I've heard this exact prob about L&V allegedly cancelling scoobynetters' policies.

Hmm... :rubchin: Another LV scare story makes the rounds.

I think I'll wait for the warning that they will wipe my hard drive, or steal my kidneys, or spit in my burger....

Surely theres plenty more insurance companies available who accept mods, i take it the benefit of LV was that there was no limit on what mods you could do apart from boring the engine?

I though LV was a bit weird on mods, for example, if they only put your policy up when you increase the CC what is stopping you bolting on Twin Turbos and Nitrous on to your family run about and giving it supercar status with standard brakes and making it potentially dangerous ?

I have just taken out a policy with LV for my Octy TDI and asked them about the situation re fitting a tuning box. As the policy isn't due to start until this Friday, I thought I'd recheck the sutuation as I don't want to find myself without any cover.

I have now spoken to three different customer service reps and had a consistent message from all of them - that they don't need to know about mods other than those that increase cubic capacity.

I also checked that these phone calls have been recorded and will act as evidence of what has been said. In addition, they have put a note on my policy to specifically mention the tuning box.

I suppose the situation may be different for a full-blown remap or more radical modifications, but I am now happy that I will be covered and that there will be sufficient evidence on file to back this up.

Incidentally, my policy appears to be underwritten by LV themselves rather than a third party - things may be different for policies underwritten by other companies.

encouraging!
