Speed Kills.....fabia Sales???

Featured Replies

Renaults with cruise control have a speed limiter system.. will accellerate up to the set speed.. and will only exceed it if you push the pedal right to the floor. i had this on my clio and it was quite handy for slower roads which were too stop-start to use cruise

The only problem I have with SUVs is in crowded car parks. If you have one each side of you it is nearly impossible to see whats coming and you have to creep out of the space.

My Snooper has a warning bleep to remind me of the 70 mph speed limit - Oh sorry I just remember the Government may ban these

Hey I have a novel idea.........DONT SPEED :D

Leeds uni are conducting an experimental system which will not let a car fitted with it go over the speed limit. It uses GPS' date=' and road sensors to determine the speed limit within the area you are driving, then restricts the speed accordingly...no matter how far the pedal is depressed (there was an override button on the steering wheel). 80 people trialing the system around Leeds.

The one of the donor vehicles...a Fabia Estate

Maybe the override buttonn is for vRS owners only. :D[/quote']

How do you overtake?

How do you overtake?

Surely if the vehicle in front was travelling fast enough that you couldn't safely overtake within the speed limit, then it's not "safe" to do so? ;)

Chris

that's true you shouldn't really exceed the speed limit even to over take a slower moving vehicle. But picture this if you will, your stuck behide a big lorry on a B-road, the speed limit maybe say 60, now the lorry will probably at some stage along the straight be doing 60 but around the twisty bit may drop down to a snails place. You only option is to over take on the straight but how can you safely with out going over 60? You cant really, so you sit behide him and have a) no idea what is going on in front B) cr*p fuel consumpion as your not at a constant speed.

I can see where this might be a good idea for some areas but I would want it on my car. If I want to have everything done for me then I'd get the bus/train. Trouble is in this country is people dont think enough and things like this will not help the matter...........I see a future where we are all mindless morons!

As for speed bumps well they bug me to I'd rather sit on 25mph down the road than have to speed up/slow down, I also hate the fact you always have some tw*t on your bum! I drive over speed bumps very slowly as I dont want to wear out my car any sooner.

As for the Rover 100 comment I know how you feel used to own a few metros and drive minis!!

But this situation is exactly the same as if there's a speed camera on the straight bit ;) Speeding kills (according to the government) :P:D

true but speed it's self does not kill, it's lack of roading the road on both "Mr speeder" and "Mr Go Slow".

I think the governments point is that at a higher speed an impact be it car on car or car on person would be greater and the chances of living go down.

So it's not "speed" as such. Having been to a speeding working shop for my speeding offence, I know understand why speed cameras are used or at least I've been brainwashed enough!! Dont get me wrong I still dont like them but I can see how they are a good idea in some areas

IAM say yes, so I passed ... RoSPA say no, so I only got silver .

Anyone else noticed that?

Having followed this thru, including the tangent topic of SUV's & school runs there is 1 area no one has picked up on with regards to the limiters.

BUNCHING

If all the cars are stuck @ 70 on the motorway, 60 on dual carage way etc, the bunching would be horredous.

example- Motorway patrol doing 60 or 65 on the inside lane, on approach look at the traffic that bunches around the patroling car, yet the roadway a good way behind and in front is reasonably clear.

Isn't this more dangerous than say doing 75. ? At least the traffic is spread out.

Steve

I'd happily pass a patrol car sitting at 65 and the assorted idiots who sit behind them. Have done on several occasions in fact :D
