All you bookmark addicts out there, I need to assemble a collection of bad reports on what has been said on Liverpool Victoria, detailed accounts posts from any forum that contradict what you were told etc etc.

I am hoping to have a discussion with them tomorrow and need some examples to quote.

I could dig them out; but I have a server to kick....I have some but please please just link them below if you have them or the time to find some. Ta.

THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE, your insurance is invalid as the underwriters have changed their minds and will now only cover alloys and one or 2 basic mods, no bodywork, no suspension, no engine, nothing else.

This took 30mins of discussion with LV and the senior underwriters this morning and the senior management in LV are having a meeting about it now as they no longer cover people with modded cars.

Colin.

Like many here i was told (by Sarah / Sara) at LV when i took out my original policy that..

Mods were ok, except for a larger engine. I made a point of telling them the car was to be chipped/remapped within days of the start of the policy. She checked with a "manager", then came back and said ok.

I also mentioned that i would most likely be doing suspension / brakes etc, and was again told it was ok, as long as i kept receipts / photos.

My recent (sept) renewal made NO mention of any change in T&C's.

They should also be reminded that Jason was also given the same info as most of us, and his claim was paid out with no problems.

Thanks, it's just a collection of tales I need to demonstrate the "word" on the web for tomorrow. Hopefully we can extract a definitive answer, if there is one.

Simple questions for them.

Are exisiting customers with mods covered as agreed over the phone.

Do they need to notifiy LV of every mod, in spite of being told otherwise.

Are they accepting new "modded" business or not ?

Are we covered for trackdays or not ? (not a major concern as i always assumed not)

Do they know their ar5e from their elbow?

Will they put all this in writing ???

Particularly this second point......nothing was mentioend to me to declare my mods just to keep reciets and take pictures is possible.

Have brought the above collection as it stands to the attention of LV.

I have to say the conversation I've had is encouraging but I'll await an official word before discussing any details or specifics.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT Colin

Am greatly interested to hear wot they say, given i had to hold while they confirmed my AmD ECU mod was only a classed as a standard Mod. Conversation 2 days before purchase. Also received updated docs within 24 Hrs.

BTW - I had a though- are they targeting younger drivers with this change in attitude?

I thought LV only insure drivers 25 and over?

they insured me when I was 24. - I was only a month away from being 25, but they still did it.

If you are speaking to them tomorrow, I will be extremely interested to hear the outcome, as my policy with them is due to start on Friday - or perhaps not: I may be forced to cancel and go elsewhere!

Any news on this Colin, I am with LV and was told that mods are ok except cc change, had plans but may have to change them now  may be worth starting a poll on who has their insurance with LV to get an idea of numbers involved on this site at least. Judging by the reponses to threads on LV's policies on this and other sites, they could be in for a big hit on lost business.

I am awiting the postman for an offical response. I hope to be able to publish it, but there are minute differences in policys so it might be taken the wrong way etc by some. I hope LV will send me somthing to publish.

But as I understand it today as a policy holder who's asked LV it's thus:

You take out your policy, indicate it's modified specify mods if you wish or your intention to modify.

You do not need to tell them the details of your mods; keep recepits and alike; however if you have a premium for a 10k and spend a further 10k on mods you might not get the mods value back which is why I still suggest calling them and telling them, they will either adjust the premium, accept it or void it, pretty much like any insurer really. This introduces the catch22, they are a business, they take risks but not excessive risks, thus if you inform them of your mods and it triggers a warning they may choose to stop your cover as it's excessive risk; this seems plausible and fine to me. So you don't have to call them, but you might end up at aloss if excessive mods are done for claiming back the total value THIS IS AS I UNDERSTAND IT!!!

I'll publish the officaial word when I'm authorised to do so...so lets hope my postman does not have a tardy mood on him.

Did they say anything about why potential new customers were given conflicting information , and indeed if they are still accepting new business for modified cars

A lot of insurers will insure you on a modified car, but will only pay out for a standard vehicle in the event of a total loss, that's been happening for years.

As Colin has been given the exact information that most LV customers have (keep receipts, don't bother us with lots of calls) etc then it's business as usual as far as i am concerned.

As for new business, if you call and they say no mods, then there's your answer...look elsewhere :)

If that was all they were doing then no problem.

Its when you phone 4 times and get different 4 answers that it is annoying

holy smoke, I'm with LV. They are the what car recommended peeps, write to What car and shock em! I'm gonna call them tommorow too.

Letter received from LV today, following a conversation with them yesterday.

Dear C.J.

regarding the situation with vehicle modifications, I can confirm that we will not under any circumstamces insure a vehicle with engine modifications.

I personally spoke to the underwriters and they have confirmed this for me.

I sincerely apologise for any misleading information which you may have been given regarding this matter.

I hope this information is sufficient for you. if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely

p.p. Harry Dunn

Insurance dept.

This is all contradictory to what they told me in April when they sold me the policy on the basis that they WOULD accept mods. Iam now totally confused, baffled and p****d off.

That's what some of their staff were telling me , so I stopped with DL.

.

My engine is standard ;)

The ECU is a different matter entirely :D

Oh...my window tints are ok though...didn't even have to tell them apparently...I insisted that they made a note of it though.

Engine modifications is a grey term; as Geoff said, my engine is exactly the same.

It's what you define as the engine. ECU upgrades are allowed with direct line as they do not have a option for it thus no premium increase. But caled it "chipped" and it's a hike....terminology is the root of all these problems. Still awiting some post; but as I'm away it might be there....more later I promise.
