Insurance for Fabia vRS special edition

Featured Replies

My partner (29 year old female, full no claims) has just been told by AXA that they won't insure her special edition Skoda Fabia vRS as it is Group 20! Surely that can't be right? The standard Fabia vRS is group 9! Anyone have similar experiences?

That does not sound right to me. I would get another quote.

Lol! Retards!

Ask to speak to someone who didn't arrive at the call centre via the Sunshine Coach.

I think it must be a fault in the system as the website refuses to give a quote for the limited edition...but it quotes for the standard vRS. :(

The vRS is group 9 based on the old 20 group system. Insurers have now moved over to a new 50 group system - the Fabia vRS should be group 18 on this system (see here).

Anyway, as said by others - try elsewhere. I found Aviva the cheapest this time around (I think the 12 months for the price of 10 offer is still running for new customers)

I had a "standard" vRS and then changed to a SE. Insurance didn't alter - with Frizzell / LV.

ensleigh have given me a very cheap quote on a vrs (19 year old male with 1 year no claims)

Hi,

I just insured my LE yesterday for just over £500 pounds (24 year old with 3 years no claims) with Direct line, best quote out there. Dosent matter whether its a standard or LE vRS still group 9 - thats what i was told by the insurer.

Hope this helps.

last year (or was it 2 years ago? i forget) , the Admiral/Elephant/DIamond/Bell Insurance database said the Fabia vRS SE was a 4 door saloon !

also, Direct Line and Churchill refused to insure me for "such a high spec fast car" because I don't have 3 years NCB (but that's because the Fabia was the first car I had ever bought/owned/insured, so i started at 0)

I've found co-op insurance to be the cheapest for the past 2 years, getting a new policy online each year, rather than just renewing (saved a bundle doing that last year)

My insurance is now up for renewal, is the vRS alarm to a Thatcham category as some ask if it's standard or thatcham?

Best quote I have had is £401 from Liverpool Victoria, Direct Line was £475

Alarm is Thatcham spec, and any decent insurance company should know that :dull:

Thanks emoticon-0148-yes.gif

So what category is it? 1 or 2? I never knew that, I always added it on an online quote as an non Thacham category car (just manufacturers factory fitted alarm and immobiliser)

Really then, I should add a thacham category, might reduce my quote then?

Ben

will reduce it a fair amount i think its catagory 1  dont qote me on that tho!

Yes, just looked and it's a CAT 1.

So do I select that from the drop down lists? I only ask as it says any additional alarm features fitted and this is just the standard alarm? (there is a drop down for 'standard manufacturers fitted alarm)

Ben

I couldn't look at the new groups list :(

Is the Fabia VRS going up in groups or staying at group 9 :wonder:

i think i must be getting old as i have just been quoted £260 with LV

They've obviously never driven one! :notme:

I know it's already been answered, but all of the Fabia models (in the 2004 brochure at least) were listed as their insurance groups being "E"'s (i.e. 2E, 4E, etc), which means they all exceed the Thatcham spec.

It's a bit uncommon for an insurer to refuse to cover someone based solely on the group of their car unless it's really highly-grouped (especially if they're a female with NCD!), as they normally just give a silly quote - I found when I was looking for insurance for my 1.9TDi, only a couple declined to quote, but a fair few others did want £2,500-£3,000 (first car, fully comp), so they obviously weren't interested (cheapest was £700). Having said that, I just ran a mock quote through Compare the Market for a 29 year old woman with 9 years NCD and a 2007 SE, and they came back with £260-£600 (AXA were the cheapest), although the typical excess was £600. Surprisingly, Admiral and LV (who are normally good candidates) didn't quote.

Don't know if that's any help...

Is this the case for the 'basic' VRS model too, or does the thacham cat 1 only apply to the SE spec?

It must be a Northern Ireland thing. AXA didn't quote when she used comparethemarket. Yet they quote for a standard vRS - over £150 cheaper than what she's finally agreed to go with (ironically, she went through a broker who got her insurance through AXA. I can't work that one out either...)

Highest quote was £1600!!

given that during the first year of this car being out, we heard of at least 3 write-offs here on Briskoda, the SE may have got itself a reputation as a risky car to own, if all you did was look at the reate of accidents per number of cars sold (at least 0.3%)

(edited to change a comma which had spoiled the meaning of the sentence)

Direct Line don't recognise the SE as a separate model, I had to push to have it noted on my policy just in case anything happens and they start to try and fob me off with a 'normal' vRS.

Quick update - turns out AXA's system is at fault. They're trying to sort the Group 20 rating down to the correct rating today!
