Should I cancel my Octy Order ?

Featured Replies

Right I test drove and ordered a Octy 2.0TDi Elegance back on 6th September and was given a build week of early October for delivery early November. This date has continually slipped through various issues Skoda have had and I eventually got given a Build Week of Week 46 this week Guaranteed !!!! Called dealer today and this date has now slipped to Week 48 22nd November, with delivery to myself Christmas week, with any luck.

As you can probably guess, I am completely pi55ed off with this, and am debating saying forget it or works to that effect and ordering a new Mondeo ST TDCi instead from a Broker at

Asking the Skoda faithful if you should ditch your order probably isn't going to result in everyone telling you to go for the ST (Didn't JC slag it off recently, btw? :D), but you should try and get something from your dealer or Skoda UK to compensate you for the hassle you've had, even if it requires threatening to cancel your order to get it...

How is your dealer being about it all? Shrugged Shoulder attitude, or genuinely apologetic?

Edit - no other local dealers who could get a similar Octy for you quicker?

im going to strug up by the balls for saying this...

Go for the ford the new mondy looks so much better then the new Octaiva...when i was in my local dealer on friday i had a good look at the new octy and sorry guys... i just dont like them :peepwall:

They probably wont let you cancel the order, they didnt let me at the time.

In answer to the questions:

Dealer is as fed up with it as I am, he is however honoring my Trade In price from September saying he'll claim the difference back of Skoda.

No one else can get one any quicker now even if I place a new order, the delay is at the Skoda Factory.

Might take a look at the Mondeo at the weekend, and see

As for cancelling my order they won't get a choice, as they have broke the contract, delivery is quoted as November on the signed order.

Just sick of all the hassle, if when I ordered it they said Jan 1st for example, and I decide I can live with that fine but so far it's been end of October maybe, then early November and keeps slipping. It's that, that is so ******* annoying. Maybe I'll just hold out for the 05 Plate

As Daytripper said, it may cost you to cancel due to the order form you have signed. Seems the dealer is doing anything he can to hold onto your business anyway. 2 weeks in build week isn't disasterous and is it worth the

My Furby wa delayed by about a week an a half but I'm glad I stayed with it, so my advice, dith the octavia by all means but get a furby vRS (The proper one) instead :P

Seriously stick with skoda and try and get something extra out of the dealer, if he's honoring your trade in price ford may not give you as much

I would look at it this way. Your new Octy is being built for you and only you. The Ford will have been built for whoever and probably standing in a field for goodness knows how long.

Personally I would wait. I know its a real pain as you want your new toy, but after seeing lines of new cars in the fields covered in bird crap, up to the hubs in mud I know I would never want a new car thats not meant a wait of a couple of months.

Thanks for the thoughts guys, I think a phone call to the dealer in the morning is in order, and I'll go from there.

Well French Connection UK 'ed off today with work and stuff and the Car put the icing on the cake :( I like the Car the spec the ....... well everything I've got coming bar I'd like a sunroof but not @

Think hard about this!

You have decided to buy the 5th most satisfactory car in the UK, made by the second most satisfactory manufacturer.

It is late, and you are ****ed off (understandable)

Now you are thinking of instead buying one of the least satisfactory cars made by Ford. Appealing, but no cigar...

A few weeks wait, for the next 2-4 years of a lot less satisfaction.

This is the information, it is up to you to decipher it!

I would (for all it's worth) ask the dealer for a loan Octavia while you are waiting, if you have an agreed P/X price, be happy, you are driving their car already, wearing it out while your new one wafts along to your ft door, still new!

Be lucky, JT

Don't go for the Mondeo m8, Had to sell my 35Kmile Tdci Zetec S (Bought from new) due to premature clutch failure. The multi plate clutch and dual mass flywheel start to fail at low miles and Ford won't do a damn thing. Buying a Skoda was the best thing I ever did, stick with it :D

Thanks again guys, feeling a lot better today, but will still speak with the Dealer.

Think I will scrap the Mondeo idea. I did once have a brand new S Reg 2.0 Ghia X as a Company Car, 21K new sold to a mate for

As they haven't started building it yet ( ;) ) how about a free sunroof by way of compensation :D

Yeah dont get a mondeo, dont have much character tbh.

When i tried cancelling my order I wasnt bothered about losing the deposity, but they said because i signed the order sheet i couldnt do it...apparently?

Agreed I would ask for some extra toys for the inconvenience

Only problem is adding any Factory Options puts the build week back even further as it will have to be rescheduled, for build. Sunroof would of been nice though.

Be careful there: I flew off the handle when I was told that my Fabia was going to be late (only a few days late in the end - they must have rushed through the delivery, or something!), but the small print on the back of the order form indemnifies Skoda UK against force majeure, and delays at Skoda Czech-land could be argued to be just that, as they are beyond Skoda UK's control.

I can't imagine it's different for any other brand. I was glad I put up with the wait in the end - at least it shows the car was brand new, and not an ex-stock one that had been sitting unregistered up to its axles in mud in a compound somewhere...

Need to speak with the Sales Manager who isn't in until tomorrow, if the threat of cancelling my order has the same effect as yours as in it becomes only a few days late, problem will be sorted.

Personally I think I need to kick up a stink to get mine through in time, as maybe and this could be me being paranoid but as I have not so far complained they keep slipping mine for customers who have complained so I'll give it a go, nothing really to lose.

seems to be a global problem on the delivery. Just checked mine and delivery has slipped from 2nd week December (9 week leadtime) to 2 or 3rd week Jan (14 weeks!)

gutted

Personally I think at wait times of more than 3 or 4 weeks for anything but a very special custom build are utterly rediculous. Obviously Skoda do not have the manufacturing capacity to meet demand. Perhaps they should drop the relatively unpopular Superb and remaining Octavia 1 models to allow them to meet demand for the new Octavia. I can not imagine that it is doing anything for Skoda's reputation keeping customers waiting for months, and even then not meeting the agreed build and delivery times.

Take it from me, no matter what is printed on the back of the order form, if they are not meeting the conditions agreed when you ordered, you can cancel the order. In any case Skoda UK/dealer will still sell the car so they are not going to bother taking you to court when it is almost certain any magistrate/judge will agree they have broken the contract.

The Skoda Octavia is a good car, but there are plenty of other cars for the same money or less that are also good, and that you would be able to drive a away days or a couple of weeks after ordering.

The wait isnt a Skoda only thing. When it comes to new motors, I have found that unless its sitting in a field rotting, a new build always takes about 8-12 weeks..and sometimes more. This would include VW, Mitsubishi,Citroen,Toyota as well as Skoda.

but the small print on the back of the order form indemnifies Skoda UK against force majeure' date=' and delays at Skoda Czech-land could be argued to be just that, as they are beyond Skoda UK's control.

Unless something has happeneed in Czech that has passed me by there is no way on earth they could claim force majeure. Although its not the clearest legal term in the world it basically means a serious event which cannot be definitely foreseen or controlled and the usual definitions of it in insurance are "acts of god", war or civil strife, flood or epidemic etc.

steviec - On the delay issue, I would agree with Kentish - you will have to wait for most decent cars and to be honest its nicer to know your car hasn't just been sitting in a field for a year or so - its just built for you

Bear in mind also, the residual value on your Skoda is (apparently IFRC from a thread by Colin) going to be worth somewhat more than the Mondeo in three years time.

I'd wait...........
