  • I'd prefer something that just zaps people who come too close to my car, let alone the wing mirrors!

I have a feeling that this may not be the end of this matter. If you are completely satisfied I am pleased for you. If not, what ever you decide to do I suggest that you consider putting in writing that you are not satisfied with the position and you accept the offer under protest and without prejudice to your right to seek further compensation.

You might also wish to put the facts in your case to [email protected]. That is Consumer Direct South East. If Skoda get away with an inadequate offer in this case others will also suffer in future.

Ryan - if you call Skoda UK (number is 08457 745745 - also on the website under the "About Us" section) then you could probably get the mirrors added for free assuming your car hasn't been built yet. It seems they are happy to do this on cars not yet built as long as your dealer didn't mention anything about the mirrors not being included when you first placed your order.

Ray - the SUK contact mentioned they had had threats of legal action etc so had spoken to their own legal team who had come forward with the options mentioned previously to try and avoid costly legal problems. In effect they are offering to replace the cars if you want, and if I was a cash buyer without the p/x then I would do this. Its just this doesn't suit my circumstances with a p/x that will reduce in value by rather a lot and it needs various things doing to it over the next 3 months. I'm not completely satisfied, but I'm happy enough and now I'm gonna get on with enjoying my new car and accept the £180. It's £180 more than I would have got if I hadn't contacted SUK at all. I hope you get your car all sorted to the spec you want.

so, if I've placed an order for an elegance, it hasn't been built yet, and the dealer hasn't said anything about the mirrors, will they be included (as I am expecting - because I don't know any different) or not?

I received a telephone call from Skoda Customer Services this morning. I was told that Skoda had now arrived at a policy, although I gathered that it might vary according to the circumstances. I was offered £180, presumably in cash, or I could return the car and another would be manufactured with folding mirrors. In the meantime the dealer would provide a courtesy car.

I enquired what had gone wrong and was told the factory had not told Skoda UK about the manufacturing changes. Where a customer opts to replace the car the costs will be borne by the factory.

If they will provide you with a courtesy i would go for build a new one it will be worth an extra £250 being on a 10 plate

Unfortunately Skoda's policy is that they don't provide a courtesy car - that's the problem. Unless you can organise one with your dealer...

Wet Kipper - call your dealer and/or Skoda UK and confirm with them.

if I contact Skoda Uk about the mirrors on that number, how do i identify myself and my order

Your name and address? ;)

It seems naive to assume that Skoda UK are not aware of this site, and are not monitoring it, so why have they not made a definitive statement as to the position? On the basis of the information I was given all UK cars not already built will come with folding mirrors but others seem to have been given different information. An obvious course of action is a letter to the dealer pointing out that it is believed that some Elegances have been delivered without electric folding mirrors so that you wish to emphasise that fitment is essential to the performanvce of your contract. Now, suppoing the dealer responds that he is sorry but your car will come without the mirrors what do you do then? If you are happy, under that circumstance to cancel the contract writing might be the best thing to do. If not, saying nothing and seeing what gets delivered might be best. There is a good chance that your car will come as ordered and you will be content. If not, you are in a stronger legal position. Incidently, there seems to be an assumption that the Skoda offer represents their dealers' legal liability. Time may tell, but I think the offer probably falls well short of that.

Just phones Skoda UK, and they have told me that he folding mirrors are not standard on the elegance range as of October 09, and that the dealers have been informed of this, and therfore i will not be provided wih the folding mirrors.

suggestions ?

Can only confirm Ryan's info. Did the same thing, called Skoda UK 5 mins ago, folding mirrors NO longer available on Elegance. It may sound like a passive/scape-goat approach, but anyone with recently ordered Octavia (like me) can only accept it or cancel his/her order (that's something I am probably not gonna do). Anyone who read the fine print might found this statement :" The information in this brochure referring to specification, design, equipment, material and external appearance relates to the time at which this brochure was printed. Whilst every effort is made to ensure its accuracy, the information in this brochure is not binding and is subject to alteration." Or better said in the ROI brochure: " Every effort is ensure accuracy however prices and specifications may change without prior notice." There you go. I doubt anyone's vehicle order has a detailed breakdown of what exactly is part of Elegance spec. So ...... I think I can only beg my dealer for a full tank of gas or car mats as a little plaster on my broken soul :) And he still could say "NO, mate". Anyone successful in negotiation with his dealer in relation with this issue, please let us know.

P.S. SKODA-MANUFACTURER OF HAPPY DRIVERS. Well, not this time, I'm afraid.

P.S.2: If you need those mirrors badly, and your car hasn't been built yet, why don't you order heated seats with a memory+the mirrors we long for?

personally im not overly fussed, but if im supposed to get them, i want them,

WHAT i really want is the bluetooth kit that intergrates with the iphone, and noone can totally tell me it weither works, doesnt work, or partially works.

HAS anyone actually tried this

I have followed this thread with much interest and have great sympathy for members who have ordered cars in good faith and been badly let down by Skoda UK.

The long term solution to the folding mirror problem is to make folding mirrors an option for cars from (say) SE spec upwards. This would bring Skoda in to line with other manufacturers who have had this option for some time or indeed have it as standard on their cars. Many of us would specify this if available and Skoda would make some money. Simples!

I've been lurking here with interest the last week or so. Just to further confuse the issue I ordered an Octavia Elegance the last week in January (build date wk13 / March 29th).

I spoke with Skoda Customer Service this morning re the likelyhood of missing electric folding mirrors, and they said they couldn't change anything on the system so sent me back to the dealer.

Spoke with the sales person at the dealer and he said he would contact dealer support about it. When I rang back a while later for an update he said I would be getting the electric folding mirrors!

So what does this tell me (us)? Well as far as I can see it just tells me whole situation is a shambles, and time will tell if I end up with the electric folding mirrors.

Skoda might manufacture 'Happy Drivers', but I am not sure how many happy Elegance customers they are managing to produce over this. Who knows I might get a pleasant suprise in a few weeks and actually get what I ordered eh?

did your dealer specifally say that the folding mirrors wher on the car, or just present you with the brochere which stated theyare on it.

I think Skoda's priority ought to be to get the brochure up to date, then that would avoid any of these problems. Certainly what you people have been told by Skoda UK is different from what I was told by one of their customer service managers yesterday. Then again, he might have only been referring to orders placed before the end of last year.

He definately said my car would have them on, they were his words, and he quoted Skoda build code options to me. He would have a great problem presenting me with the brochure as I am about 600 miles away from him at the moment! He admitted that dealers were caught on the hop with this in January by not having been informed by Skoda that this option had been deleted at the factory, but was still showing in the January UK brochure.

Like I say, I will believe it when I see it.

Question for those affected by a recent change in Elegance specifications, ie NO folding mirrors any more:

Are those mirrors at least electrically controlled and heated??? Just don't understand why SKODA UK is not willing to include them as an option (apart from being included in electrical driver's seat+folding+heated mirrors package, for cca 500 GBP). Skoda in Some EU countries (Slovakia for example) is offering them in three different levels, with price ranging from 47-285 EUR (including VAT). 47EUR is just for electric and folding mirrors. But comparing the situation in countries will not solve the problem, i know :(

Yes mirrors still adjust and heat electrically, it is only the folding bit that is no longer electrical.

Just doing a little research on the Skoda website, the PDF brochure still shows the Electric folding mirrors as standard equipment. But on the web site the standard and optional equipment no longer shows them as standard. Checking everything else I have noticed that the PDF brochure shows varible boot floor as standard but on the web site it is a £140 extra and no mention in the standard equipment. So has this gone as well. I pick mine up on Monday and I am already P1$$d that the mirrors are gone so if the variable boot has gone as well then the car is going to be rejected. What a con. They may as well put anything they want in the brochure to get you to buy the car then supply whatever they want without notice

didnt think the variable boot was standard, its not in my brochere, and i think thats estate only

didnt think the variable boot was standard, its not in my brochere, and i think thats estate only

Sorry missed that bit I was on about the estate, the brochure shows it standard on the estate but the web sit shows it as a £140 option and not standard.

surely not another thing missing ?

I'd have been as well ordering an SE !

I ordered 1.8 elegance in October delivered this month without folding mirrors. After seeing the trhread here I emailed Skoda via their main site two days ago and they just phoned saying to contact the dealer who will offer either £180 good will gesture or re-order vehicle and get as new. I think I will reorder as that is what I chose in the first place.

Cheers
