Speeding up Bolero SD, possible solution

Featured Replies

@pickings01 - contacted my local dealer here in Holland in respect to the software

update for the Bolero radio unit.

They just came back advising "there is no update available yet"?

would you kindly check with your dealer and have them confirm the update number and release

date.

If use the programme from Danishviking which is a huge improvement, but if Skoda/Vag have

meanwhile released an sw update than I would like to have this loaded into my Bolero.

thanks kindly.

nb.: I have A Yeti

Actually I'd even consider doing MP3 CDs, how many does the Bolero take? 6? Now using Roxio & Gracenote to do all my music with tags. (Wish me luck, I maybe gone some time!)

The first dealer I contacted (using chassis number) said exactly the same thing to me but maybe it's a case of having to have your car plugged in to the VAG diagnostics before it shows?

in otherwords the update is in the system, but the dealer are not ware of same yet?

As I mentioned before, just doing the chassis check didn't bring up anything on my car (carried out July/August) and as Steve's car is about the same age as mine, I can only suggest that the garage didn't even hook up the car to see if it needed doing (which obviously it does)!

Just as a little addition here. The first garage said that they would have to charge me half an hours labour to connect up and check the car if nothing was found. The second garage didn't mention that and it was all carried out for free under warranty.

Go back to the garage Steve and insist it gets put right.

It's back at the dealer tomorrow for a new door seal so I will raise the issue again... And if that doesn't work I'll give up on them and go elsewhere for the servicing in future

Raglist, anxiously awaiting your feedback.

contacted the Importer in Holland in respect to new software for the Bolero, got

a rely that my quesiton was forwarded ot their technical dept.

sofar no reply yet.

it seem to be easier to land on the Moon than to get a confirmation whether an

simple update is available.

Does anyone notice the bolero when playing mp3 off the SD card it fades in or misses the first few milliseconds of any given track? especially when chaging folders?

not a big deal, just something I noticed.

I can't say that I've noticed it on the new firmware but it certainly did it on the old version.

I'll check later (and edit the post) to confirm though.

Edit:- I was right - it doesn't seem to exhibit the tendencies that LaceSensor mentions.

It seems a shame that this update can't be seen without having to visit the workshop though. :S

Guys,

I will try and pop down to the local dealer tomorrow for some more info on the update.

I just turned up after calling the service dept to show them how slow it was and that I had read on a forum that there was an update.

They were not aware of the update but took the car and plugged it in to check. They then showed me a report saying a new one was available and that I can have it flashed now but it could take upto 40 mins (I think the updates come across the internet).

Then after a quick Bolero.

I also did not have to pay for this.

just received an e-mail recomfirming that according to my dealer there is

no software update yet available for the Skoda Yeti - Bolero?????

Honestly speaking I'm not convinced that every effort has been undertaken

to further investigate this request.

they remained with the remakr "we will keep you updated"

So did they manage to upgrade the Bolero for you Steve?

@Polypenko - From my experience and looking at the previous posts, I think it has to be a 'hook up' visit for them to see the problem.

I already suggested same, but so far I have not been able to convince the

dealer.

My vRS is in the dealers getting the gearbox fixed. I phoned them up this morning and told them there's a Bolero firmware upgrade out and I want it reflashed while they have the car as mine runs like a slug. They said they haven't done one yet but will look into it and sort it.

I'll report back what happens...

Hi

Try using SD card class 6 and above. class 10 16GB is less than £10, seen recently on hotukdeals.com. I use a 4GB class6 and its pretty fast to read on bolero (delivered july10).

So did they manage to upgrade the Bolero for you Steve?

Nope, will just use a different dealer from now on... Sloppy customer service really annoys me...

  • 2 weeks later...

Today during a visit to my dealer to pick up an item, I again reverted to

the Bolero Sofware Update.

Unfortunately their was no time to hook up my Yeti to the computer.

But the Service manager re-confirmed that they checked with Skoda

but that there is no SW update available?

Very strange indeed.

Awaiting further feedback of Skoda Bolero UK owners on this

subject.

thanks.

I think the only true way to see if it's available or not is to hook it up as SUK (or elsewhere) don't appear to know that their answer is different to the computers answer!

  • 2 weeks later...

I took my 59 plate Octy with a Bolero in for it's first service today at Darlingtons in Harlow (where I bought the car) and requested they check for updates for the stereo. The note on the paperwork that came back was that my car "wasn't eligible for any updates".

I wonder if this means that there is more than one type of Bolero, and only the later version can be upgraded? Or whether they're just lazy and couldn't be bothered to do it. I might take a trip down to Maidstone and see if I have more luck there, as that seems to be the closest dealership to me that has performed an upgrade.

Having half filled an 8GB card and given up waiting for the Bolero to process it after 5 minutes, Danish Viking's programme was a godsend. It reduced the delay to a very acceptable 10 seconds.

A few weeks' use revealed some tag errors, incorrect playlists, duplicate tracks and the like so I tidied these up on my PC, cleared the card, rewrote the tracks to the card and used Danish Viking's programme again. Now for some reason it takes 60 seconds to process, another 60 seconds to change playlist, stutters on playback while looking for a different playlist. And sometimes plays a different track to the one I selected! Yet the file structure looks exactly the same as it did before, and there are actually fewer tracks!

Any suggestions as to what could have changed?

The stuttering was a trait of the 'old' firmware and I don't think you'll be able to solve it without the firmware upgrade.

As for your new problem - you mention tag errors and incorrect playlists etc. While the tag errors can easily be solved with a program such as 'Tag & Rename', it might be a good idea to ensure that the file names are also relevant and maybe for convenience, the same.

The playlists from DV are only generated from your music file names so maybe some of your files are wrongly named?

A few hours spent with Tag & Rename will ensure continued speed and will benefit you in the future. When you do get the firmware upgrade you will only need to remove the playlists to ensure that the Bolero then works as it was intended to do.

Thanks for your quick reply. I've already spent an entire evening checking tags and renaming files, which is why I can't understand why it's so much worse than before. I was hoping to last until the next service but I think I'll have to enquire about the upgrade before then.

Had my new VRS bout a week now. Bolero great -

With generic Class 6, 2Gig SD card with 10 albums on.

These were just dragged and dropped onto stick as individual album folders (with tracks in that folder)

Starts to play music 2--3 seconds after inserted.
