Bike rack for Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi guys

As per topic title really, I'm looking for a rear mounted bike rack for the Fabia vRS but after a bit of looking I can't find a compatible one. What does everyone else have? Only want to spend up to £50-£60 ideally.

Thanks

hi and welcome, i know am no help but i hve been looking to and cant seem to find 1 becase of the boot spoiler i had the same problem with my megane coupe and the bike had to travel inside the car

You can't use rear mounted bike carriers on cars with roof spoilers (the straps damage the spoiler), so you'll need to use a roof rack

And you can't use a towbar mount, cause you can't have one on the vRS

Cheers for the help guys. Damn my poor planning. I love my vRS but should have thought about this before I bought it. Nevermind.

Hi, thanks for the welcome. Guess mine will have to accompany me in the car too :-(

take both wheels off and you'll find the frame goes in with ease with the seats down but try find a old sheet and put that down so when you come back from your day trip covered in mud it doesnt get onto the seats its a pain i kno

I use one of the Halfords rear mount carriers on my VRS and i've had no issues with it - roff spoiler has made no difference!

Do the straps not put pressure on the spoiler?

It sits on the spoiler - but dosent put any real pressure on it - I put a couple of pieces of that pipe cladding on the edge of the spoiler so it doesnt scratch the paint. But i've used it about a dozen times with upto 3 bikes on it without any problems!

I was going to buy one of the Thule high mount carriers, but at £150 - I couldnt afford that!

Of course you can, you just can't tow with it. Seeing as you're not hitching a trailer to it and just using the mount to place a bike rack onto, there would be mileage in looking into it. Probably the biggest issue is that would might well need to cut the bumper to allow fitting.

TBH I'd just get the Thule/Skoda accessories roof bars (exactly the same, made for Skoda by Thule) and then suitable bike mounts. More expensive than a rear latch type carrier, but you get what you pay for. I've seen those types start to lift the rear hatch and bend the metal along the edge, so I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Update. So I went into my local bike shop and got some advice. The guy there said spoilers don't cause a problem really but they just can't offer the same guarantee that they do with cars without a spoiler.

We looked at their website while I was in the shop and one of the rear mounted racks is on a mark 4 golf tdi with a spoiler in the promotional picture. "Thats bad advertising" he says, ha ha.

So while I love my car, I'm not anal about it and have therefore bought a Saris bike rack. The majority of the time it will only have my bike on anyway so not too much weight but I'm going to see how I get on with it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Anyone fancy a Briskoda bike meet? That'd be fun.

if you have a roof rack , Thule do a roof rack bike mount, theyre about 40-50 quid. they are compatible with most makes of roof rack.

Well at least you're sorted. Just make sure your rear lights and plate are still visible

Well said Wardy...the usual "Do not fit a tow bar to a vRS" suspects, despite people not wanting to tow.

I fitted the original Skoda towbar from the dealer to mount my Thule rack.

You do not need to cut the bumper for the towbar itself...but you need to make a cut underneath for the drop down electrics.

The swan neck on the towbar itself, rest on the underside of the bumper so will cause some slight cosmetic damage. But then I wasn't worried as I wanted to take my bikes to trail centres, more than worrying about the underside of my bumper.

Way better and easier than taking my roof rack and mont blanc bike racks on and off twice a week - also the rear bike rack doesnt affect my MPG whereas the roof bars, even without the racks or bikes on did affect it quite a bit.

I also have the halfords high mount rack that I use on my MK2 leon...I wouldn't fit this to my Fabia personally for reasons listed above relating to the spoiler.

HTH :)

It's just a bit of an odd technicality for the whole towing issue, and one I'd never seen come up before on any other car. But because you'd never ever have a trailer attached to the towbar, you'll never have an issue about being technically uninsured while towing a trailer! Simples :D

A Fabia vRS a few doors away from me has a tow bar fitted.

I dream of a vrs, but I can't life with that small boot and those white seats, they will mark far too easy for me.

I'll stick to my tdi estate, great all rounder.

There was a grey estate that was done up like the vrs from a crs donor car, if only they'd of done that...

Ok so I thought i'd take my wife's bike for a service and get some pics of the bike rack on while I was at it!

Polo6n1600i - pics have been a real help, now off to Halfords to purchase bike carrier!

My understanding of the towbar regulations having gone into this in depth previously is that the actual FITTING of the towbar is technically illegal - it's not just not using it for actual towing.

Omg I wouldn't even move the vrs if the bike looked like that.if don't even look safe, that bar on the rear window will move up. I've got a rear one for my vrs it fits just under the spoiler and in the number plate reaces then strap all the bike rake to the boot.been doing like that for years and it done move plus you can still use the boot!

Ive used the same setup everytime - the bikes have never moved - this has 6 straps to hold it in place, so you cant open the boot with the rack on. It sits exactly where it should - higher than the tail lights and you can see the number plate even upto 70mph

I've got the Halfords Advanced Rear Mounted Cycle Carrier.

I've set the system up and it seems sturdy, but was wonderig if anybody has used this and knows the settings?

It's the one with the Golf on the box :)

Thanks in advance
