Front wishbone bushes DIY?

Featured Replies

The girlfriends fabia TDI front wishbone bushes are worn O/S only but, both will get changed.

Is this a DIY or will they need "pressed" in. What about tracking an stuff afterwards?

I have plenty of tools and time on my hands - it also saves us money it I do it for her.

Cheers guys

Best have a look at the guide on here and decide if it's worth the DIY hassle. Knowing some choice swear words usually accompanies consul bush work. :giggle:

My I suggest if you do do or get them done to use Audi ones which are solid and will last a lot longer, I think they're from the A3.

You really need the correct tool for putting them in especially if you use the Audi ones.

Getting them out is just a simple matter of belting an old large screwdriver into them and levering them out.

Be sure to put the new ones in with a flat horizontal at the bottom, so that the wishbone rests in the right place.

The common replacement solid ones are from the seat ibiza cupra, not the A3  Is part numbers etc. in the guide in the technical guide section

he says front....rear ones are the console bushes...

true, but as far as i'm aware the fronts very rarely fail? Thought it might be more likely hes referring to the front of the car, rather than the front of the wishbone :)

mayb....mayb not... :)

Perhaps if the OP did a search on console bushes he would realise how much info is out there, my kitten just coofered it.

lol thanks for the replies.

I did do the search - but it appears the console bushes are the hard ones to replace?? Whereas I had the wheel off and can actually see the Front part of the wishbone moving freely in the bush - The big console bush at the rear of the wishbone looks pretty good.

From the guide, it says to just cut the old one out, then he uses a homemade press to get the new one in. Im wondering if brute force could work. And if anybody has the part Number for the Audi bush....I have two Fabias and will prob oreder a load of them.

Ahh my mistake matey  I have the powerflex ones in the front of the wishbones, can't say if they made much difference as they were done with the rears and some other bits so...

They should last a lot longer than the stock rubber ones though. If you've still got the voided rears, I assume you need to remove the wishbone to fit the fronts so may be worth doing the rears at the same time as the parts aren't really expensive? Just an idea, and I haven't done this job myself so take it with a pinch of salt :)

I was thinking you meant the large rear wishbone rubbers, I've never heard of the front ones wearing before.

I've got the propper info now though i.e:

Solid rear wishbone rubbers to fit Fabia's from an Audi A2 (not A3) part no: 8Z0 407 183
