Has anybody fitted a W8 to the rear AS WELL as the front? I'm just about to fit the front (used the Superb one, prayed the frame but left the buttons grey - looks the mutts and is easy to use because you can now see where to prod!

Am up for doing a rear conversion as well as long as its possible.................

I don't see the point of doing the rear myself.

I just moved the original front light to the rear so i now have map/reading lights in the back as well as the front.

So.......the question still stands.........has anybody put a W8 in the back as well as the front? I see no reason why it wouldn't work and the reason I want to do it is to give rear seat passengers ambient lighting without affecting my nightvision!

Can you get a black superb light with cat vision to match the interior of vrs?

This is really a top modification, although I am planning on trying to modify the normal interior light with LEDs first....as mine is a Classic, I do not have any switches to be lit in my interior light.

I have to say I wouldn't bother doing this again. The light unit does NOT hold itself into the headlining on the clips (ie without screws), the adaptor plug needs hacking to **** to stop it fouling the sunglasses holder and the screw holes don't come anywhere near to lining up despite what another poster says!

All in all its not a particularly satisfactory installation - bit of a bodge really and yes I am pretty good with this type of thing!!

I reckon you are far better off sourcing some 12v leds, drilling your original unit and fitting them in recessed holders which are available from Maplins. Would have been a fraction of the cost, not involve spraying anything, purchasing an adaptor cable and generally having to fudge things to make them fit. Even now I still don't have the light unit proerly mounted because I can't get the screws in!

Not a good result.

sorry to bump an old thread but...........If the Touerag is the same mirror with said driving lights...could you not just drill the holes in the vrs mirror and add some led's from maplins?

I presume there is power there?

Yes virtually the same.

Follow this tutorial for the wiring and then follow this link for actually installing it

Fiscon Mic

Just remember you need to continue routing it to the actual fiscon box wherever you have located it

Useful stuff there thanks. I am going to install my bluetooth kit and was pondering how to route the microphone cable (and GSM antenna). When you tidied up did you tuck the cable back under the headlining at the top of the windscreen or is there a way to run it straight across the lining to the A pillar from the interior light position?

Really glad you mentioned the screw for the curtain airbags as I hadn't come across mention of that before.

Loads of room to route directly across the headlining = use one of the cores of some twin and earth electrical cable as a draw wire.

Great, thanks.

Has anyone ever fitted green LED's in place of the red ones, Skoda style?

Well well, i have the W8 light fitted in my leon mk1 so will be removing it and swapping over to the octy. Nice guide fella and thanks for the updates to slightly simplify the job. Hows the colour match on the Halfrauds matt black then?

Changing the leds should be pretty easy, but the red looks okay to me despite me thinking it would look a bit naff beforehand. If I get bored,I might go to white leds instead.

Red is used because the eye is least distracting at night because of the red rods in the eye itself, or something like that.

Anyway, if anyone needs it, here's a link to doing this mod on a car with a SUNROOF as I found a few small details to be ever so slightly different. Seemed to make sense to have it all on one thread as much as possible. emoticon-0100-smile.gif

(If it's the same as the sunroof unit, it also shows how to change the led cat-vision colour. emoticon-0105-wink.gif )

Got enough parts to make a spare loom myself now if anyone's interested? Not knocked up yet so can make it to whatever length/type is needed.

Is that the toe rag mirror? I thought you can get these in black too?

EDIT: ah you're using the light version, you know you can get the mirror from the toerag with the LED's? It's plug and play too. But maybe you don't have the auto mirror?

Hey - What Touareg mirror are you talking about? :D you got me interested.

One with lights in the bottom. ;)

Got a part number of something?

Do you mean the dimming mirror?

Probably something like 3B0857511J

They seem to have two downwards pointing LEDs fitted :)

edit: No idea if that part number is suitable for the Octavia.

Okay so just like the dimming mirror I have on my car but with two extra led's... Too late now, I already ordered the dome light from a superb :D cheers!
