Featured Replies

was led to this vid by a letter in this mths EVO mag, Ari Vatanen's record run in the 1988 "Pike's Peak" takes a bit of time to d/l, but worth the wait l think :thumbup:

I copied that onto a CD so I could play it on the DVD player, megga footage.

that is one amazing piece of driving!!!!

I love it when he takes his hand off of the wheel to shade his eyes from the sun.... big balls required for Pikes Peak

Awesome!

if its the one i'm thinking of it may have been here before but absolutely awesome and deserves to back here again

That is awesome - what a driver! Unbelievable!:thumbup::thumbup:

Had this saved on my hard drive for a while now. It really is an awesome display of driving skill from a man who is one of the all time greats at whatever he does.

Brilliant!! That was the time rally cars were real beasts too!

THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THAMKYOU!! Absolutely astounding!!

What car is this, I know it's a peugeot but what type of Peugeot ?

It's a 405 T16... :)

Goes alright !

Presumably you can get all your Ari Vatanen replica car accessories at your local Half-frauds ;)

In a similar vein to that vid, I know this has been around a while, but it still takes my breath away. So many people I've shown it to think it was faked, but I reckon it's the real deal!

edit:

Tired to link directly, but you'll have to go via this lovely rival car enthusiasts' site:

The link doesn't work :(

Ivan,, do u have MSN ??? could try send the file to u in there if u have :)

its even more fun to watch when you've been up Pikes Peak! its awesome! and very narrow ! Not much wider than a car and a USA sized 4x4 !

Sadly the people who live in Colorado springs want it Tarmacing ! that will ruin it.

I don't know if anyone's interested any more, or even managed to view the driving in Paris that I tried to link to, but I've worked out that for the bit I recognise (Arc de Triomphe > Obelisque > middle of the Louvre), the guy does 2.2 miles in 2 mins 15 secs, which is an average of only 58 mph. Fast for in town, I'll admit, but I reckon achievable by any reasonably competent driver on the virtually deserted roads it's filmed on. The minute or so it takes to travel the length of the Champs Elysees kinda suggests it wasn't filmed in a Ferrari, either. So much for it being speeded up. I don't think it is anyway, for various boring reasons... Just goes to show that a low viewpoint like in a sports car makes things seem faster...

If you want to see some really crazy driving, get yourself a copy of one of the "getaway in stockholm" videos from Grokster or Kazaa - particularly number 2, the race between escort cosworth and supra is astounding. I think I have them on my hard disk so if anybody wants to host them they're welcome to, if they have the spare space (the files are massive)...

OK, have checked and I have the following on my HD if anyone is feeling brave and wants to pester me for a copy - and wants to suggest a fast way of transferring files this size...?

Getaway in Stockholm 2 (supra vs escy cosworth) 272 MB mpg approx 26 mins long.

Getaway in Stockholm 3 (supra then NSX) 230 MB mpg approx 13 mins long better image quality.

Getaway in Stockholm 4 (corvette vs NSX) 327 MB mpg approx 16 mins long, again good image quality.

Anyone who wants them is welcome to a copy....

Incidentally, I don't have grokster anymore, got sick of all the spyware slowing up my system and scrubbed the lot of it. so would need another way to share the files...

Jut

MSN can xfer files.( MSN to MSN)

Hope you have broadband to do this.
