O.K. Bought a 150 bhp slxi about 6 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago got it uped to 190 bhp and it was running really good. Here is the problem. Was at crail today doing the quater mile and the car is broke! It just lost all of its power on one of the runs. You could smell clutch fluid and it was HOT. Parked it up for a few hours. When I drove it home it was strugling to go into gear, crunching like hell and no real bitting point. Also cluth was sticking for a while when I lifted my foot. Even worse than that if you give it acceleration nothing happens for a while, then it revs really high and makes a squeaking noise like metal rubbing on metal. The car does not accelerate though. Whats wrong with it and how much to fix it? Could really do with some help guys. :(

Sounds like someone needs a new clutch...

Whats the brake fluid level like?

the clutch takes its fluid from the braking system, best case, maybe its low and needs topping up....

worst case... new clutch or slave cylinder :(

oh dear the probelms of doing 1/4 runs.... also with the extra bhp there will more stress on the whole set up if not changed accordingly... id recomend a uprated clutch if you need to replace it...putting on another stanard one may result in it buring out quicker..

An uprated clutch and flywheel by Sachs could be a wise choice for the replacement. Search for Sachs and you should come up with details including supplier and price.

If you just need a clutch pressure plate and clutch plate, these are circa

Yup, the clutch has gone. Car is limping about till next week when I will get a helix clutch kit fited at starperformance. Oh well at least it will handle alot more torque.

Could you please let us know parts fitted, prices and how the clutch performs once fixed? :)

Don't do too much drag racing, Cluster, if you want to preserve your clutch. Bad luck Thomas, but hopefully soon you'll be enjoying the power again with the peace of mind that at least your clutch isn't going to fail again, hopefully.

Clutches are so subjective, that's how one fails in 4k and one in 60+K...

Once upgraded the next weakest link, umm I'd say the rest of the drive train in you lock down the traction i.e. run slicks. The power has less chance to escape through the clutch and wheel slip so shafts and gears might be the next stop; however I don't think you'll encounter issues unless you car suffers from lateral shock forces. These appear to be linked to susquent box failures, so don't kerb it and you should be fine ;)

I suspect mine will be dead after Sunday. It's on 50k from Sept02 and has been chipped all it's life so it has to be going soon. Then it's either a sachs+fly or some carbon superdooper thing from JBS, unless it fails later when I'm in Scotland...pre emptive is the keyaction I shoud be following.

Does superchip count as being chipped?

Thanks for the info guys. Well have been driving about for the last 10 days keeping the revs under 2500. It has been very frustrating. Only 2 1/2 days to go till I get the new uprated clutch fitted and then its back to the old fun and games, can't wait.

Happy days. Jim at starperformance fitted the uprated clutch kit today. Car is back to its old ways. Took about 4 1/2 hours alot of work involved. Had a look at my old cluth too. Oh dear, 2 cracks and 1 major rupture, tut tut.

I only noticed threads on the RS clutch recently, and had been thinking smuggly to myself that the guys reporting problems must all be using the clutch as a footrest or something - to burn a clutch out in 40k-ish miles... ludicrous!

Got into the Octy this morning (running fashionably late apu). Started it up, and it decided it didn't want to go into reverse. Gave it a little persuasion... and it crunched home. Reversed out of the drive, then it didn't much fancy first either. Third attempt, it reluctantly slotted home. The first couple of miles gear changes were a little notchy, and after a 25miles journey, reversing at the office car park was another crunching experience.

Could it be a fluid thing? Brakes feel fine, but haven't smacked them hard for a week or so.....
