Mobile upgrade time...

Well I've done my 18months hard time with the iphone... time for something new, more competitive tariff and a battery that lasts longer than 3 hours pls.

So given we have a thread on making non compatible mobiles, I thought I'd ask for known working ones or series / OS's that do work.

Known mobiles which work with the Superb MK II ?

Not had any problems at all with my Nokia E90. :)

Antique Nokia 6021 works perfectly, T-Mobile MDA Compact V also works.

Just swapped my (much loved) iphone for a blackberry bold 9700, had it about a month and so far so good - i miss the touch screen but its much cheaper - internet connection is much quicker and more reliable, general reception is improved - battery life is excellent (approx 3 to 4 days at the moment) and most important it works with my superb which was the main reason for change. Cheers

Most Nokia's will work. My old 6310i did and my new E71 works perfectly. Both also synchronised with my Apple iMac so all my contacts information was on the home computer, phone and car.

For a more competitive contract just drop it down on to O2 Simlicity 20 with unlimited web bolt on. Gives you the 600 mins, 500 texts and unlimited internet for £20 a month, with no lock in - cancel at any time. You can do it from 9 months into an iPhone contract. No porting, no changing your number, no messing about.

As for the battery life, I've honestly had a full week's battery life out of mine with few calls and texts - wifi on, bluetooth and 3g off. If you jailbreak it you can have toggles available from the home screen for things like bluetooth and 3g so you can turn them off and on as needed without faffing about going through the settings menus.

E51 works too, and hopefully the E52 will

Pretty much anything from Nokia will work, except the N900 (sadly).

I've used the E61, E61i, E71, E72, N97 and N97 mini with mine, and they all work just fine.

Current favourite is the E72 (with the latest firmware). It's an E71 with some of the rough edges knocked off, and works very well as a general business phone. It's not useless for media related stuff or web browsing, but it's nowhere near as good as the iPhone.

From recent updates to the bug I logged with Apple about rSAP, it seems that iPhoneOS 4.x may well be getting a big bluetooth upgrade. Right now, it's not clear if this will need new hardware (probably, knowing Apple).

Another alternative would be the HTC HD2, but I've found that the rSAP stuff is a little bit flaky, especially in the early ROMs. I've put a WM6.5.5 cooked ROM (from XDA-Developers) on mine, and it now works just fine. It all depends if you can stomach Windows Mobile, as lots of people really don't like it.

Blackberrys are another possible alternative. Most of them seem to work just fine. The Storm2 might be a possibility if you are after a touchscreen handset. Likewise, the N97 mini is pretty good for a Symbian phone.

Hope that helps,

Bagpuss.
