Wanting to buy a vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all

Thinking about going for a vRS Facelift, however, I was a little disheartened by a visit to a dealer yesterday.

They offered me £5500 for my current car, while it is in tip top condition.

It is an 06 Elegance, 49K on the clock, DSG with extras, i.e. Suspension + 17" Pegasus wheels, Maxidot etc.

I got onto Glass's and Parkers and between them the Trade-in price should be £7800.

However, would £5500 be a result of trying to take advantage of the VAT free Octavia offer? (i.e. they lose £3K on the car, but make it up by offsetting the trade in price)

Can you let me know your thoughts?

TIA.

they should give book price, i looked in to trading my car in a few weeks ago but they took the pee and offered bottom book price. you should be able to sell your car privately with the good spec you have or try another skoda dealer.

Hi,

With 27 years in the motor industry on the sales side it is more likely the reason they made a low p/x offer. However a more realistic trade in price

would be £6 - £6500 if mint.Hope that is of help.

I would have been very happy with £6500, and I would accept that I am getting a brand new vRS for £17,500 instead of £19,000

But £5,500 was terrible.

The guy even had the cheek to say that if it was today he would have offered £6500, but as the vRS is on 12 week order, then he is projecting the cars value in 12 weeks time.

£1,000 for 12 weeks depreciation? Give me a break! So I walked out.

Sell privately if you can - its the best ££ method for you, then shop around to find a dealer who'll match drivethedeal.

n.b. "options" don't add any value at trade in, but will help shift your car when you're selling privately.

OK That's great.

However, they said that the vRS is on 12 week factory order, timing it could be tricky

Also, how can I guarantee that this car will sell?

Drive The Deal was interesting, that reckons £16,400!

That beats the VAT free offer itself.

Hi Gorebrush,

Give Jeremy Taylor or Steve Cantrell at Rainworth Skoda a call 01623 623400, they can usually match DTD & can also give you an approx. P/X price.

I & a few others have purchased from them recently & in my case they matched DTD to within a tenner, excellent to deal with.

Sounds like a plan.

Many thanks indeed.

I ordered my new petrol vRS estatein race blue with silver roof rails and maxidot from Central Skoda in Birmingham for £16300 and I'm using the 50% deposit and 50% interest free finance.

I took the drive the deal price and emailed every Skoda dealer in the country (it took a while) and Central Skoda beat the drive the deal price by over £200. You need to remember than the drive the deal price in only with 6 months road tax where as a price direct from s Skoda dealer is with 12 month road tax.

Central Skoda offered me an okay price as a part ex but as with you its a 3 month delivery period so they said my current vRS will depreciate at £200/month. So i've sold if privately and I'm using the wifescar for a few weeks. When I say I sold it privatley I actually sold it through sell the car.com - similar to we buy any car.com but they collect and they didn't mess around with the price - I kept the road tax and they didn't notice the small dent in the side!!

Hope this helps.

Excellent!

I can see this depreciation thing is going to get me at every dealer.

It is a pity that I can't share my fiancée's car for the next 3 months. Maybe me and her need a quiet chat ;)

we buy any car.com offered me £6620...

That would work.

Just what do I do for the next 12 weeks...

You can either use WBAC or take it to auction or take it round a few local dealers for a cash sale. You'll get best price with DtD and when the car is in the showroom, drop the old car off to WBAC and get your cash, then buy your new one. You will need 50% deposit when you purchase the car on the day. Otherwise its 10% when you place the order.

Sounds like that could be the plan.

Cheers James!

Dealer in Swansea has possibly come up trumps and offering a far better deal...

don't be surprised if even though they offer you that you end up with a lot less. I've heard lots of horror stories about We buy any car

What is the name of the dealer in Swansea and could you please let us know how good the deal was? Thanks

If you do a deal today based on the current value of your car the dealer should honour that valuation even if delivery of the new car is 12 weeks away. It's not your fault that they do not have the car you want to buy available now.

Before I bought my Octavia both Honda and Toyota dealers offered me fixed values for my part-x on future delivery dates. If your Skoda dealer won't offer this price guarantee go elsewhere.

That's exactly what I did :)

I took it to another dealer and got £7,000 in part ex, and have now put the deposit down on the vRS I want. Luckily not a factory order, so my wait is a smidge under 6 weeks.

I have Race Blue and Spare Wheel option. (To be fair, I currently have pretty much ALL the other options on my current elegance, and i'll not miss some of them. Parking sensors for one - I don't listen to them because they give false positives some days. The dimming mirror - nice feature, but I don't drive too often at night to need it, so that wont be missed. Rain sensor - wont miss that, automatic wipers are nice, but again the false positives are a pain!)

I could go on, but I wont :D

Just looking very forward to my new car :)

Sounds like a good deal. Wish I had only 6 weeks to wait!
