I have 5 bulb cluster LEDs in my sidelights, purely because they are a lot brighter than the pants little 5w halogen bulbs. I wouldn't put any in custom locations to be honest, like TT headlamp style or on washer jets :D

Can't stand them, especially on the Audi's, which are now the ultimate chav car imho.

Saw a typical example the other day: Audi 100 C4 with after market fitted front LEDs, rear LEDs, double twin-barrelled exhaust :o and yes... it was yellow :giggle:

Jason, LED sidelights are not the same thing as LED DRLs; the DRLs are those strings of fairy lights along the edge of the headlight on the latest Audis.

Absolutly pointless in my opinion, look cheap and tacky!

I don't dislike them, some cars I quite like them. The aftermarket ones look chavtastic though...

I drive with dipped lights on all the time anyway so any car I have LED DRL or not they aren't usually on.

I like them if they come as standard or on the car when it comes from factory like the new Audi range or Citroen DS3. I cant stand retro fit LED DRL's they do my head in and they look in 99.99% of the time crap!

So in summary i like OEM factory fitted DRL LEDS but hate aftermarket ones!

What he said!!

Well done you. Dipped headlights don't dazzle, these DRLs do.

If people only used parking lights (aka side lights) for parking instead of driving then we wouldn't even need 5w bulbs. Driving in Germany is great because you aren't allowed to drive on parking lights, as soon as you need any lights then dipped headlights are the thing to use.

Because that is so sensible, I never use parking lights when moving.

Thanks all for voting - seems I'm not alone after all.

I have noticed a lot of manufacturers slowly rolling out facelifted models with these LED's now & most new builds have some kind of half-hearted effort - I just hope they don't become mandatory.

I was followed by a Mercedes this morning in slightly overcast weather and I had to dip my mirror to night mode. Foglights are illegal when visibility is above 100 metres, but it looks as though the LED daylight running lights are just as dazzling.

How on earth did they pass construction and use legislation?

I mean i saw a brand new Golf R32 which looked stunning and what did the owner do?! Put two strips of BLUE LEDs under each of the headlights following the curve of the bumper! But what makes it even worse was they were not even straight!!!

:o

Agree about that!!!

But I have FL octy and I love em!

Makes the car stand out from rest of range

i like them but i have an Audi A5, one of the original cars with them.

i only like OE ones, stick on just look like wannabes!

Ok, I've got a different take to these. Before I quite liked them if done properly, however once audi started doing them I felt its a bit of a 'lexus light' imitation now.. Its a shame really.. imo audi ruined it for me

Guys. If you are going to be getting a FL Octy in the future get used to the LEDS because you can't turn them off!!

If you turn to side lights on dash they dim slightley, but when all light switches are off, the LEDS are on full!!

The amount of peeps that flash me in daylight is ALOT but I can't turn em off!!

So all you haters of LEDS are giving up on octy vrs then!?!!?

how many car makers had them before audi?

Can't you take the fuse out? It looks as though we're going to have to drive round being dazzled all the time. Personally I have to shield my eyes whenever I meet them. If daylight lights are needed, dipped headlights would be better as they don't dazzle as much.

I can also see it leading to even more idiots having foglighta on when there's no fog.

I better go to the optician, as so far ive never been dazzeled by LED daytime running lights!

i dont really think they are great or rubbish but they serve a function and help adhere to the new laws introduced

IMHO i think alot of the opinions come from jealousy as i doubt when most people buy new cars they will be out taping up the leds and pulling out fuses!

There's quite a few kn0b heads around Harrogate who are driving around with there fogs on, on a sunny day thinking they are cool having DRL on......To$$ers

Couldn't agree more. As to the LED DRLs themselves, It's a 'depends' I saw some on a Citroen (c5?) the other day and they looked awful, and dazzled very badly. Audi ones not so bad, Merc ones OK, most aftermarket ones terrible.

What was wrong with Audi just using the main beam bulbs, just turned down a bit? (It could be a separate bulb in the same reflector possibly - I'm not sure)

Aren't they supposed to be a legal requirement on new cars in a few years?

So much for trying to save the environment, having your lights on all day

It started out life on lorries and trucks, then the modding scene, it should've stayed there tbh.. :p but good for Audi by using them as 'in' styling..

I simply like them less now because people would instantly think "oh like the Audi's" :dull:

2011, I believe.

darned annoying, far enough if its the way forward, but still annoying

even Transit vans have them on now

Yeah, I was amused to see a Transit van with badly fitted aftermarket LED lights. I did like the LED lights on the R8 but since then they just seem to be tacky now as so many are strapping cheap ones onto their cars. Some of the factory fit ones still look good though as long as they're subtle.
