RS 1.4TSI Engine Tuning Options

What will be possible? This engine is already in other VAG cars so who offers remaps and what are the power gains? What other tuning options will be available? I know a lot of it will be speculation for now but some rough ideas would be good.

The 1.4TSI is a great engine to tune but at 170PS it's quite highly strung already.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on a new Fabia RS as Skoda UK whet my appetite when chatting to me at Autosport.

Hi, i have heard Revotechnik have a map in pipelines, but as far as i am aware its not been officaly released. BHP was claimed by my dealer to go to approx 210-220.

This is cause my brother has just got his brand new ibiza cupra with the same engine.

That's interesting, how did they whet your appetite? What did they have to say about the performance of the new engine??

Three guys came up to have a sniff around my Octavia and we inevitably got talking, they confirmed the engine to me and we had a discussion around mapping etc. They told me they had one to play around with and that it was a great car as we all expect it to be, like the Ibiza is.

wouldn't it be a bit dodgy trying to get too much more output as like you say the 1.4 tsi is already highly strung at 170 bhp plus IIRC the DSG7 box is only rated for 180 lb/ft of torque anyway?

How many people will want an 180 bhp Fabia though?

Anymore than the 180bhp in an average handling FWD car will be a disaster, the torque steer will be a laugh too :giggle:

wonder what the options on the 1.2TSI in terms of tuning will be.

Reading the Mk5 Ibiza section on SCN, there are remaps to boost the Cupra power. Getting APT tuning - SCN I think Revo and Superchips do one for the 1.4 TSI as well (not sure of the 180 BHP version). The only problem may be the DSG will handle the power OK, but the problem is torque. See post #7 of this thread. 7 Speed DSG Torque - Can it can't it???

There are remaps for the DSG gearbox which is different to engine ones (I think a similar price as them). These are from HPA, Revo and GIAC. They not only make shifting faster, they disable kickdown on manual modes, enables Launch control and other things. A Google search found this thread. Got a DSG?.....you need this! - UK-mkivs

We offer DSG software upgrades. This allows for better shifting and much improved limiter changes.

We have also done alot of work to on the 1.4TSI engines, and can offer some great performance upgrades!

It's not chipping these days, it's remapping. And it's not just about horsepower or torque. The Manufacturers release the cars with software that will run with different grades / qualities of fuels. If you know you are only going to run quality fuels, drive the car correctly with regards to letting the oil get up to temperature, and let it have a few gentle miles to cool down after a run then why not do it?

It smooths throttle response, can improve consumption and of course can increase power and torque gains.

As above, we tune many cars which some may presume are already perfected.

Last week we have a Mercedes C63 AMG in for tuning, these are heavily de-tuned and with software alone we managed 515hp :thumbup:

Speaking from experience mainly because it's fun and exciting plus you have a unique car. However also speaking from experience when you start modifying your car you open up a whole new tin of worms that presents you with more problems to correct before you can proceed modifiying your ar furher.

I modified my Mach 1 Fabia vRS when I had it and learnt alot about tunning and cars in general from it but, it was a much more simple car than the NEW Fabia vRS mach 2 which has this DSG.

To me thats going to be a major issue for anyone wanting to tune that car and I think Skoda knew that which will make people think twice about modifying the remapping etc.

Fair enough it will be easy enough to change suspension settings and brakes (If required wont know until its launched) but because its a TSI engine your def gunna need a specialist to tune it if the person is determined to do it and I'm sure I know a few that will be.

I wanted a more powerful car so thats why I just bought my mach 1 Mazda MPS 3 in White (last 1 in the country in it's colour I will add) at 256 Bhp from stock I dont need anymore power thats plenty on a Front wheel drive car. The Focus RS is only a tenth of a second quicker on paper to 60 (Thats just on paper) in the real world speaking from experience again its not.

Precisely about the financial side of things!

I have a vRS mark 1 and would never have considered 'remapping' or 'chipping' it. In my opinion, a car is designed for the specification intended, any modifications to the power output etc. will give you short term fun but will inevitably lead to a shorter engine life.

How are you defining a shorter engine life? I know of a couple of remapped mk1 Octavia vRS's that are well over 100k in mileage. A bad remap, with more importantly a bad driver at the wheel will cause problems. A good remap from a reputable company, with a driver that knows how to warm a car up, cool a car down etc will do nothing other than enhance the driveability of your car.

Some manufacturers, Subaru and Fiat for example offer remaps as part of their official performance upgrades. Some Skoda dealers have offered remaps as part of their service, things have moved on a lot since the "chipping" days :)

From what I've seen on SCN the standard 180ps engine is already pushing the factory limits of what torque the gearbox can take. Would be interesting to see how tunable the 1.2 is though. I believe it will be available with the same gearbox?

Yes, but no flappy paddles I think.

Common sense really isn't it, Don't idle it on the driveway, drive off straight away, keep the revs down for the first few miles to allow the oil to get up to temperature, and if it's got a turbo, take it easy for the last couple of miles of the journey to allow cooler oil to circulate and bring the temperature down before switching the motor off................... simples!
