Fuel computer calibration

Featured Replies

There used to be a topic that told how to calibrate the fuel computer, but it's missing now.

How is it done using VagCom?

I took my SE in under warranty because the fuel computer is miles out. It reads an average of 63MPG when it is really 52MPG. The dealers said there is nothing they know of to fix it and the last one they did they had to replace the whole dash :S

Whether they meant the whole dials or not I don't know.

I'd have thought the digital display was a separate module anyway

The fuel computer can be adjusted using VAGCOM or the dealers own dedicated equipment. Assuming the dealer knows how to work their equipment

It would appear that they don't!

You could ignore the computer and work it out yourself, full tank to full tank.

use spritmonitor.de as per my sig, however my in car computer is scarily accurate of my mpg

Semi-hijacking the thread, but for a good reason :-

Had my vRS for approaching 2 weeks now and have managed to fill up brim to brim twice.

The first tankful I used up with uhm rather "playful" driving.

The second tank, I decided to see what economy i could manage (60 mph, slipstreaming trucks etc)

Same roads for both, 90 miles a day on M1 and A1, and about 8 miles through Leeds center in none- rush hour traffic.

I was amazed at the difference between the onboard computer average MPG, and my actual, real, calculate MPG

Computer said 59 MPG and actual was 45 MPG on hardish driving tankful

Computer said 79 MPG (!!) and actual was 59 MPG on my Granny driving tankful. (At one point just after filling up and doing 20 miles on A1 the computer figure actually crept into the 90's, briefly)

Computer is therefore WAY out. It was out by approx the same amount on both tanks (33% over estimate in fuel economy)

So . . . (getting back to the thread)

As it sounds like the overestimation is consistent, I should be able to effectively calibrate this out ?

Not looked into VAGCOM yet, but any experts out there care to comment on whether this is possible ?

Regards,

Kevin.

IIRC full trim is about 6% max with VAGCOM

Just as a side note, My computer seemed to be accurate in the coldest temperatures so perhaps the time of build / original calibration ambient temperature makes a difference? As the weather gets warmer it's getting gradually more optimistic.. Getting 50 but computer reporting 52+ on the tank figure (not the last trip figure).

I never knew it could be adjusted through vagcom though, that's quite interesting.

More reasons to look into getting a lead.

I do use it but it rather defeats the object of having a fuel computer. I want the computer to be more accurate.

The original post is still out there - VCDS instructions for calibrating MPG

I believe that procedure is only valid for the Octavia II - not the Fabia vRS. Unfortunately my Fabia is away so I can't check for a few days.
