Has the Octy 2.0 TDI PD got a dpf?

Featured Replies

Off to the local dealer Monday am, together with a deposit cheque. Gave me a good price on the px, so it'll be back to a Skoda again (Hooray). Now over the past few months, I',ve done a fair bit of research with garages, car owners and the internet concerning dpf's, and as I live on the Isle of Wight, there is no way I would have a diesel with a dpf. The technology is quite frankly insane and the problems are real.

I love diesels - I have had several and the last - a Fabia Vrs was awesome, but because of the dpf situation on new cars, I was going to order a 1.8 TSI petrol Octavia.; it sounds a good engine. However, as a result of studying the Octavia brochure and speaking to a lady on the Skoda Helpline, it APPEARS that the 2 litre Pumpe Duese engine in the Octavia does not have a pdf. It's Euro IV, whereas the pdf engines seem to all be Euro V emissions.

Can anyone advise me for absolute certainty? I would prefer to have the real world performance and economy of the diesel; but I need to be 100% certain - can't take a gamble with this sort of money.

I'm confused by the DPF's. I thought it was only the PD+CR 170's and the CR140 engines that had them. But in some brochures it says the PD140 can have one too. In the UK brochure for the latest Octy it says there's a DPF on the PD 140 with 4x4 transmission.

As far as I know, the PD140, on the NON 4x4 models, DO NOT have a DPF.

I have a 2006 06 Octavia Elegance at the moment, and this doesn't have a DPF

Did the 170 PD have a DPF ?

Is there no CR 140 engine available in the Octy like the latest Golf ?

Dont know whether it was sold in the UK, but the 140PD has been made as a 8 valve with DPF and as a 16 valve without DPF.

The 170PD has a DPF, the CRs arent sold without DPF.

Still no 140CR in the Octi. They just started selling the little 105 (1.6) CR in the Octavia and the 140CR is available in the SuperB.

I thought all the 2.0 PD's were 16 valve and the 1.9 PD's were 8 valve.

The 170 diesels were only used by the VRS, they changed to CR in 2008 (IIRC).

The 2.0 140TDI PD with DPF has always been a 8 valve. Only the 140TDI PD without DPF were 16v.

The 170TDI PD with DPF is a 16 valve.

What's the easiest way of knowing whether a 2.0 140 is 8 valve or 16 valve as the brochures don't state this ?

8v is the one with the dpf.

8v is the one with the dpf.

I mean if your trying to find out if it has a DPF and u don't know if it's 8v or 16v. Was the 8v engine only used in the MK1 Octy ?

The 2.0TDI has never been used in a MK1 Octy.

IMHO it is easier to find out whether it has a DPF than to find out whether it has 16 or 8 valves.

In Germany the DPF can be found in the cars documents.

Or just look for the car sticker and look for the engine code. IIRC the BKD was the one without DPF (16v) and the BMM the one with DPF (8v).

BMM is certainly an 8v with DPF and 7GG is the three letter code for the DPF that should show up in the service book

as i understand it only the 4x4 (incl. scout) has 8v engine with DPF.

on pre facelift the 2wd 140 TDi were 16v and therefore had no DPF

yes

Talk to the dealer, they should know I agree, at the moment I'm sure that the only cars in the Octy range that have dpf are the 4x4's and the vRS cars, probably as IIRC they come out of a different factory to the others, might be worth chacking if the 1.6 tdi CR has a dpf, I'm not sure on that one but I'm sure that the 140 tdi pd 2wd cars don't have the dpf.

The 1.6CR has a DPF

Well the long and short of it seems to be and the dealer says the same, is that all the PD 140's supplied UP TO NOW haven't had a dpf fitted. However, no one seems to be able to guarantee that one ordered today and yet to be built will be the same. I can't take a gamble with that sort of money.

So I have ordered an Elegance 1.8 TSI with a spare wheel in anthracite. The 1.8TSI engine seems to have attracted rave reviews and it's got lots of low down torque and it's a cam chain - not a belt, a good servicing cost saving there in a few years.

I reckon it will have a similar performance to my old 150bhp Cavalier Sri that I had a good few years ago; that went pdq. I know from my previous Fabia Vrs, what beautilly built cars Octy's are. Looking forward to getting it.

Just my two pence but mines a '05 2.0 PD Tdi and does not have a DPF...though it says 8v on the V5, yet it as OGG in tbe boot sticker and the engine is a BKD :D

It looks like it is a 16v unit cos you can see the indentations for 2 cam sprokets on the timing belt cover........

  • 3 weeks later...

Are the 2.0 FSI and the 2.0 FSI turbo engines, belt or chain driven ?
