1.8 TSi @ 180 BHP?

Featured Replies

Ive been advised by one forum sponsor that it isnt possible as its protected/locked but Revo say its no problem and JKM have already done one with Revo and got 275lb/ft torque and 220bhp iirc. Brilliant gains imo. As I understand it the MED17 ECU in the 1.8 just isnt as tweakable as before but with the above mapped figures I think its 'tweakable' enough.

This has been covered in previous post. I think the situation is that they can't be remapped through the serial port but the ECU can be "chipped" on the bench.

Re: mpg again, just had the dubious pleasure of round trip to Heathrow. A few slows on M25 as usual going up, but a steady 70 just about the whole way back - 3 occupants incl. me, and a little luggage.

mpg readout towards end was 40.8

After my 760 miles experience from new I think that is what I would expect on that sort of journey. Yesterday I managed to brim the tank again to check things properly over the 760 miles and found that my true overall mpg was 35.71 and my maxidot stated 36.3 - which I thought was very close. I refilled with 95 octane for the first time (98 octane to date) to see if I can detect any significant differences. There is still a strong indication of much improved mpg as the car loosens up. I have a longish journey (60 miles) which I keep repeating and it gets better each time.

Thats pretty impressive.

Yesterday I did about 200 miles of mostly gentle A road and dual carriage way driving with the odd burst of power for overtaking and my average only reached 34 mpg on the computer (real 31 mpg). That was with three people and several bikes, two of which were on a towball mounted carrier which probably doesn't help but even so I'm a bit disappointed.

Just back from North Devon & with a full tank, myself + loads of luggage, managed to get an average of 39,9 that's on the twisty A39, A358, A303, M3, A331 & A31. Left early & hardly any traffic either, average speed 56mph. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I get the feeling that, in my case anyway, load (=weight) seems to have a lot to do with it.

Also I noticed that when I was heavily loaded, on the Bournemouth run, but still wanted to get a move on, out of roundabouts etc, I really gave it a lot of wellie, which I rarely do with my normal load (as I call my missus!).

With all that weight the car still had loads of grunt out of the junctions - very impressed - but obviously using more gas to produce it. The truck-sized boot had four people's weekend luggage plus loads of small bags of various goodies, and still looked half empty.

All in all, bl**dy nice car - wouldn't change it for anything at present.
