Oh you mean ESP with ABS+EBD+EBC+ASR+EDL+HBA+DSR+ESBS+HHC+MSR - Dipping Mirrors - Auto Lights - Automatic Gearboxes - Haldex Drive Train - Folding Door mirrors - Self cancelling Indicators - Tyre Pressure Monitors and stuff like that! Mmmmmmmmmmmm, not quite sure I get your point! emoticon-0136-giggle.gif (But I do know what you mean)emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Must be the season, this evening advisory light lit up and message telling me licence plate bulb failure.

When I got home, I left lights on to check and not only was the near side licence plate bulb blown but the OS DRL bulb was also blown. Trip to dealers tomorrow.

How odd, exactly the same one as mine! Let me know if they replace the DRL bulb under warranty.

(there is a thread about my problem)

As a matter of interest. Does anyone know if the rear "side lights" can be programmed with VCDS to operate when the DRLs are on?

One or two heavily wooded narrow side roads round here are quite gloomy in broad daylight, and it is possible to almost miss seeing a dark coloured vehicle when driving out of bright sunlight and into a much less well lit area (The "tree tunnel" effect - hope you understand!).

I hope one of the VCDS guru's can answer this with some instruction on "How-To" please.

Many thanks.....Tony

Hi Tony,

Yes I believe they can, when we collected the wife's Fabia II it had two DRL options switched on at the same time :o The DRL in the foglights were on and the side lights and tail lights were also on with the light switch turned off. Trip back to the dealers to connect up their box and un-check a code in the system, so we now just have the dedicated DRL in the fogs on.

Regards,

TP

Thanks Tim! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

As I suspected - it may be possible to activate via VCDS as Soccerc [many thanks for the info] seems to have it in Ireland. It is possibly just another quirk of the UK market spec. Now if we (I & one or two others) can find a VCDS Guru who might know how........................?

Come on guys! I know some of you like a challenge!..................Tony emotion-34.gif

Whatever the ins and outs of this and all sorts of other issues raised here, in the end safety on the road comes down to 99% driver skill - and attitude (ie thoughtfulness, attentiveness - dare I say maturity?), not to the colour, shape, position, etc of car lights, trim and so on.

I agree with Tony, I live in Cumbria and drive around the back roads most gays

I never knew that!! Is it a hitch hiking thing?

It is often the case round here that we drive through densly wooded areas, so the DLRs are an important asset to being seen early by oncoming drivers. Any lights (except possibly sidelights) will be noticed sooner than no lights at all. We have a stretch of totally straight road about a mile long (Lon Goed) tree lined and quite dark, it is possible to see an oncoming car at the far end provided it has its lights on. For that reason I always drive with the DLRs on.

Hi Mike.

Unfortunately that is not a particularly good option for us as we would need to drive round with them on ALL the time just in case we pass through a "tree tunnel". I would spend quite a bit of time wearing out the light switch were I to adopt this suggestion and just turning them on and off as required. But thanks anyway!

Other manufacturers: Volvo - Landrover (Continental spec) etc have for many years used one form or another of DRLs, and traditionally, had them operating with the rear lights. I would like to do the same if possible?.........................Regards.......Tony

If you have 'Auto' (lights) {not sure if they are part of the SE speck} your DRLs will be on in daylight.

If you go through a 'tree tunnel' or under a long(ish) bridge the 'auto' function will switch on your headlights/tail lights and once clear of the tunnel will revert to DRLs.

As they don't say in Italy... exacto!

SE spec doesn't have "lazy" lights :giggle:

OK.

Mind you there are occasions when I would want headlights 'on' but the 'auto' does not provide; so I switch them on manually. ;)

When I read a thread and feel that it isn't relevant, doesn't interest me or I simply don't see the point then I hit the back button.

Looking at the number of posts prior to yours would suggest this is of interest to quite a few people.

If you don't see the point then don't post.

Not quite sure who's got what in the way of features & facilities. My SE is 6 weeks old & is fitted with the 'Auto' lights function. The switch is left in the 'auto' position & when the sensor does its bit dipped headlights come on (the appropriate symbol in the middle of the rev counter lights up) and I know it's working because when I go to the local Co-Op their car park is an old warehouse behind the shop & the heads come on when I drive in to it.

This particular topic bears a similarity to several others - different owners appear to have (alledgedly) similar functions operating differently. Possible the DLR status has been quietly changed without anybody being told??

O K I won't. Damn damn.

It does if you order the option "Auto Dim / Rain Sensor / Light Assist" emoticon-0105-wink.gif

I still wonder why people have to buy their way into "automated" systems which may not work as the driver expects or wants.

What is wrong with the human brain and a switch? It is a far better combination than an electro mechanical system that is prone to react in an unacceptable way on occasions.

If yu don't enjoy the pleasure of the driving experience - go by bus.

Slightly 'sideways' on this subject..

Yesterday my Wife collected a new car - Mercedes A180 CD - when I asked the salesman about the DLRs I was told 'It doesn't have them' I pointed out that it should have as it was registered after 1st April 2011. When we then dove into the handbook I found the option for switching on the 'Daylight running lights' basically involved setting the 'maxidot' to automatically turn on the dipped headlights (and rear lights etc) when the engine was started!!

We have opted to leave them off as they are very bright !! but I will investigate the possibility of fitting seperate LED DLRs at the front.

No DLRs on that then !!

I pointed out that it should have as it was registered after 1st April 2011.

DRL's are only a legal requirement on brand new models introduced after February 2011.

As the A Class was around before this date DRL's are not required.

Some manufacturers have retrofitted them to current models as they are a marketable / desirable feature.

Has anyone tried the Camaro P13W DLR bulbs yet?

http://www.automotivelightstore.com/p13w.aspx

Don't know if was those exact ones, but someone did try some LED replacements but they didn't fit properly.

How much??!!??

I'm still trying to find somewhere other than a dealer I can buy a replacement bulb. There are only the LED's on Ebay, and the two suppliers on here don't list them. In fact one doesn't even list the Yeti!

Also annoyed that my dealer hasn't come back to me with an explanation of why they didn't replace it or even ask me if I wanted it replaced after I had told them it had gone when they had it in for warranty work last week.
