Why not get a Golf BlueMotion, cheaper to buy, virtually same CO2 (92-Prius, 99-Golf)

Thanks to Chris .... also now testing an SE Spec Golf Bluemotion DSG, which works out a shade cheaper with toys added, Heated seat's, Multifunction wheel, computer, and other bit's n bobs with the 1.6 oil burner featuring Stop / Start tech ........ whoopy dooopy doooo.

I know a Taxi driver in Bournemouth with one. He gets around the low 50s in MPG for town work which is pretty good. Been in it a couple of times and its not bad tbh. My wifes mate was looking to buy one but she hated the drive and bought the Honda Insight instead.

Doing some calculations now, after getting quotes for a golf with a reasonable spec and a Prius T-Spirit.

I am still open minded about this, but the figures seem to stack up in favour of the Prius. Remember this is the 3rd Gen so nothing like the old 2nd Gen that people have had experience with. The 3rd Gen is a 1.8 petrol and in combination with the electric motor makes 134bhp vs the golfs 103bhp, the Prius has more boot space, ton's more equipment and performance wise is a second quicker to 60 (though neither are sports cars, and that's not the reason for leasing them) Costs wise, the Best Bluemotion quote for a reasonable spec is £60+ VAT a month more expensive than a Prius T-Spirit.

My inherent petrol head nature is telling me I should hate the Prius, but every test I read of the Gen 3 praises it and reckons it runs and handles as well as any other 5 door family saloon. Purely on paper the Prius stacks up very well against the Bluemotion SE.

I am actually looking forward to testing both now.

I need to drop the other "fluffy" a line to see how he's getting on with his Pious I think, Saturday could be an interesting day.

Does that mean that you don't want those crotchless hessian blend underpants that you asked me to pick up for you? ;)

Wrestling with the conscience this morning after 2 good test drives yesterday. Nobody will believe me I know, but the 3rd Gen Prius in T-Spirit spec was the better of the 2 cars over the Bluemotion golf. In "power" mode it was quicker (134BHP on tap in Power Mode), it was quieter, the primary ride was not as good though. Equipment wise, once I had got the Golf SE BMT up to a spec I would like, there was no change out of £25K, the Pious is better on price and if I was buying there is a VAT free deal and 3 years free servicing and 8 year Warranty, with the sticker price discounted to £21k.

The only thing better in the Golf was the traditional layout of the dash and the soft ride, equipment wise it was in the dark ages. The Pious has 8" Touch Screen Entertainment centre, Bluetooth hands free, 7 digit post code, live traffic avoidance built into the HU, 10GB Hard disk, reversing camera, IPA (their version of Park assist, self parking), Keyless entry, 17" 5 Spoke Alloys, cubby's everywhere, built in Ipod integration in the arm rest with additional 12v socket and Aux in, climate control and the list goes on .... all as standard.

What I really can't get over is how good the Pious was to drive, by good, I mean if you where to compare it to other cars in the family 5 door hatch class (not good as in GTi / vRS territory, but family hatch / rep mobile good). It's totally different to the Gen 2 version we are all familiar with and hate with a passion.

In this latest generation, it's almost as if Toyota have designed and built the Pious to be a car first, and a pseudo gayboy eco chariot second .............................. I'm confused :)

Sounds like the Prius is the better car hands down then really.. now you just have to come to terms with that fact that despite all of the facts we are still going to ridicule and take the ****

This is true :)

Fluff, i feel your pain.

Can you not get a brown paper bag thrown in to the Toyota deal?

Least then no one see you driving it

Joking aside looked at one yesterday, lots of toys to play with whilst pounding the motorways.

and a motorbike+ leather get up!!!!!! finally coming out after years of denial!!!!!

Why has this sprung to mind ? :giggle:

A modern day classic

How about a big turbo Golf Bluemotion ;)

One way to beat the tax man.

Mate, I'll take you out in my VR6 to try and get you to see sense!

If its the better car as you say, then buy it. Itll be more reliable than a VAG car and Toyotas dealers do tend to be better as well. Its no more gay or embarrasing than a bluemotion IMO.

Oh go on, get the Pious then. It makes better tax sense, and you seem to be a gadget junkie!

Just remember, there'll be no stopping you! ;)

Fluff, if you took a snap of it with your Sony A350 (p.s., how are you getting on with it btw?), it would crack the lens!!

Golf if you can, all the way!

I love the A350 mate, I take it everywhere with me, down in London this week near Heathrow so may go to one of the viewing area's if the weather picks up. I am selling a Minolta Baby Beercan lens as well if your interested :)

As for the car, the Pious was imho the better of the 2, better equipped, better to drive over a broad spread of road types, an enormous split level boot etc etc etc. Oh, and a shed load of cash cheaper.

It's just me wrestling with the eco-homo-status of such a vee-hicle :)

I suppose driving a Pious attracts the same sort of derision we would have attracted driving a Skoda in the pre VAG days :)

If it has self-parking then buy it

It does, but if it won't stop, it may self park into the armco or the neighbours cat :)

It does go to show how overpriced Veedubs are getting these days... a well specced Golf R is well into straight6 beemer money these days.

Whats VSC? After watching colgods sig.

Seen the top always down thing before and its atill awesome!!!

Oh well, I have ordered one.

£11k for the Superb as a Part Ex and doing it on a Company Purchase rather than a lease, the Prius is a T-Spirit Spec with all toys and has been discounted down to just over £20k, with 3 years free servicing and 8 year warranty.

I know they are massaging the figures, as dealers do, but £11k for a 2.5TDi in part ex in this age of emissions based knee jerk reactions is pretty good, in fact it's £5 MORE than I paid for it 7 months ago.

Right, where did I put my Handbag and Lipstick
